The stats from the article indicate that amputation occurs in less than one half of one percent of diabetes patients, yet this is the "standard" they use to dissuade you from eating fast food or what not.
Reminds me of things like when the surgeon general says that "no amount of cigarette smoke is safe" as if you'd actually be better off downing a cup of radioactive waste or botulism toxin.
If amputation is that big a risk from diabetes there ought to be plenty of one-legged actors to photograph. The fact that they had to fake it suggests it’s not that common.
There’s an estimated 20 million folks with diabetes, about 1/3 haven’t been diagnosed or treated. 5th leading cause of death.
I don’t know if this ad goes too far but it seems reasonable to have a public info campaign on the subject
PSAs are traditionally very stark — they always want to get your attention as quickly and completely as possible.
This sounds like it works, for what it is worth.
Once you sign the contract to become clip art, you belong to the world.
I know several older people with amputed feet and legs from diabetes, including some in my family. You probably don’t notice them because they are either homebound in a wheelchair or they wear a prosthetic leg in public. Diabetes is a very serious disease and more people need to be aware of it.
That is safer, if you are swiping one of my cigarettes. Don't mess with my smokes. It's hazardous to your health. ;)

Actor? Certainly a drama queen....
From the article: “Berry agrees he signed a waiver before the shoot, allowing for such alterations and distribution.”
What exactly is the cause of the shock?
And I laughed at my computer screen for, like, a minute... at the thought of you, like, crying for a minute over a fake photo!

Actually the stuff in tobacco smoke that causes cancer isn’t the nicotine, it’s the trace amounts of radioactive Polonium. For some reason, tobacco has an uncanny ability to absorb and concentrate trace radioactive components found in soil.
I find it disturbing that he sat at his computer and cried for like a minute about it.
“Beyond shocked!” LOL, he has been consulting an attorney.
Amen! 41 years with type one and still have all digits.
You cannot even see his face...
Wasn’t there a Friends episode where Joey’s picture is used in an AIDS awareness campaign without his knowledge.
I never heard of this actor “Berry” but like they say, “Any publicity is good publicity”.
He’ll only end up more well-known.
Maybe he should take some Pamprin or have some herbal tea, or just take a stroll on the beach, Masingill-style...
The guy said that the bus driver made him get off there because it was the end of the route -- typical civil serpent that they are. The poor old man had gotten on the wrong bus and had no clue where he was. He was really lost, and there would be no more buses running until 6am.
Maybe I'm a sap, but I could not walk away and leave him there. I told him I would give him a ride to where he could get a bus that late to get back home -- and that was not a place I would normally go that time of night.
It was about a 20 minute ride to get there in a mostly welfare high crime area where I dropped him off at a major bus stop. By this time it was 11:30 at night.
Right next to the bus station is a MacDonalds. It was the only thing open in that area. The drive-through was backed up through their parking lot and for about a half block down the street. Must have been 50 cars waiting in line. It looked like it should have been lunch time, not bed time.
There was a time in life when a Big Mac, Coke and fries was an occasional treat that would do no harm. I have a feeling that today, it's a only kind of food some people eat. It's not a diet that promotes good health.
Isn't LBJs 'Great Society' great?
