The Republican primary campaign has highlighted the barely concealed contempt in which Mitt Romney holds the electorate, especially the Republican electorate. One adviser has expressed his astonishment that GOP voters fall for clowns like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich:
>>>> They like preachers, the adviser said of the tea party demographic. If you take them to a tent meeting, theyll get whipped into a frenzy. Thats how people like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich get women to fall into bed with them.<<<<
That is an insult putatively directed at Romneys rivals, but which reflects heavily on the voters themselves. Another fresh insult comes today, by way of John Dickerson, who reports that Gingrichs assault on Juan Williams worked because "'Williams was a stand-in for Barack Obama in people's minds,' said one Romney adviser."
Gee, whatever could Williams and Obama have in common? Can this be interpreted as meaning anything other than that South Carolina Republicans are a pack of racist buffoons?
Romneys disdain for the electorate is one of his more deeply rooted traits. During his fathers 1968 presidential campaign, Romney wrote, how can the American public like such muttonheads?
I find that contempt pretty well-founded, and it is a relief that Romney does not believe the nonsense he spouts during the campaign. But the persistent awkwardness of Romneys campaign style reflects this basic tension. Its easy to try to persuade somebody for whom you have basic respect. Its persuading somebody whom you consider stupid but must conceal any trace of your disdain thats excruciatingly difficult. Romneys awkward manner on the trail is the agony of suppressed contempt.
bttt
Romney will be creamed, he will be run over like a steamroller. Dole/McCain !!! coming to your cities! This will be brutal.
If you (GOP nitwit elitists) can't beat a communist dictator fraud who has violated the Constitution, driven us into unimaginable debt, and foisted socialized medicine on us, THEN YOU CAN'T BEAT ANYONE!
“They like preachers, the adviser said of the tea party demographic. If you take them to a tent meeting, theyll get whipped into a frenzy. Thats how people like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich get women to fall into bed with them.
lets change the name and political affiliation around for a second, shall we?
“They like preachers, the adviser said of the liberal demographic. If you take them to a tent meeting, theyll get whipped into a frenzy. Thats how people like Obama get women to fall into bed with them.
now- which one rings truer???
Boy is he out of touch with real voters.
Have to admit he has a point. They elected 0bummer and may compound the stupidity by doing it again.
Imagine what he'll be like when he won't have to suppress it.
JUST LIKE OBAMA.
He hates us because he don't fall down worshipfully at his feet.
He is after all a Mormon demigod.
Romney gets on swimmingly with Republicans.
Who he hates are conservatives and libertarians.
“... it is a relief that Romney does not believe the nonsense he spouts during the campaign.”
Setting aside the leftist contempt dismissing liberty as ‘nonsense’, they have Willard Hartpence Romney’s number as a charlatan!
This will mark the beginning of the end of the GOP should they run Willard Romney. There will be a second party emerge as the GOP becomes nothing more than the cast shadow of the Democrats.
Is Romney attempting to pay back republicans for ditching his father when he ran for president? Is this another case of “Dreams of My Father”?
[ Romneys awkward manner on the trail is the agony of suppressed contempt ]
i actually picked up on this some time ago.
Plenty of contempt for Conservatives has managed to leak out the sides of his mealy mouth a lot the last few weeks...
Hes the common or garden variety school yard bully...
The disdain Romney feels for conservatives is mutual.
His popularity provides some insight as to the makeup of the GOP.
For those of us who serve Christ, prayer is obligatory, and our only hope.
For those who don’t, this election must seem pretty hopeless.
That's another reason (as if we needed any more) to not nominate Mitten -- he's like a poster boy for the stereotypical image of the out-of-touch rich guy. He might as well campaign wearing spats, a top hat, and a monocle.
I really want to know, does Romney really think conservatives are all going to mindlessly vote for him just because detest Barack Obama? Even after he’s mocked, spit in their faces and arrogantly proclaimed himself the nomineee from day one?
He’s done nothing whatsoever to work with conservatives nor does he seem to care. Mitt’s in for a rude awakening when real conservatives stay home on election day or vote third party.
