January 30,2012

We were just in the studios of GBTV (Glenn Beck's online network) around a group of folks who were watching Glenn's show, when he put up this chart from ZeroHedge of youth unemployment in Europe.

Jaws literally dropped around the room. The extent of how bad it is is not well known.

ZeroHedge

By the way, the salience of this issue was underscored today, when even Rupert Murdoch began tweeting about it.

How many 16 to 18 or even 20 year olds work at all?

What is this picture for the U.S. in the 18 to 25 group by demographic and sex?

I’ll bet it is staggering.

There is nothing to do. They are going thru the shock period. Everyone will hold onto their caiptal. If and when it stabilizes, then things may improve. BTW, what you have in Greece is a service economy, much like ours is now.

Shape of things to come. Hopefully, they will know which way to direct their anger.

I would guess that if a person reaches an age -- 25? 30? and has never had a real job, then they will likely never have a real work ethic or ability to be a solid contributor at any job.

A period of deep youth unemployment can cripple an entire generation and thereby have a damaging effect on a country that can last for decades.

I see that in Greece, in Spain, and in the US African American community. And possibly in the US white community.

do you think I am wrong? whenever there is misery caused by politicians that they can’t fix they start wars to lower the population.

look it up and stop being so naive.

Yeah, but in Europe a kid can stay on his parent’s health plan until he is 66.

Within the next two years. The overhead cost of living in the first world is such that when everything goes to sh*t, people are very rapidly compressed under the stresses of daily living, and the expenses required just to live. The government always wants their share, regardless of current economic conditions. When there is no there, there, things get dicey in short order.

When people have nothing to lose, they lose it.

A world war is coming in the next decade. It’s the only way to deal w this.

Luckily a world war wouldn't work very well. Because of the demographic imbalance favoring the old, all the developed countries need more young people entering the workforce to pay for the retirements of the old. Having a war would just kill the young and compound the problem more than it already is.
