Why does the GOP establishment want to run a moderate liberal? ( We will lose to Obama )

Why would the GOP want to self destruct? The party knows most of the base cannot accept Romney due to his liberal stances, Romneycare and people don't trust him fully due to his positions going back and forth on important issues? The anybody but Obama plan will not work. Americans are sick of the same old network. Elites vs. the people. I spoke to hundreds of voters who are not going to back him in the general. Romney should never be on the top tier representing the Republican party. He needs to run against Obama as a democrat. Then we have both Bushes visiting with Obama a few days before the Florida primary. Now, I feel confident to say, they want Obama to win 4 more years. I cannot believe the forces will not unite to stop liberal Romney who is as close to Obama as one could get. Someone needs to audit the Treasury. Do you think Mr. Goldman Sachs will do that? If Rick thinks Mitt is such a bad candidate, why won't he unite forces to stop this being forced on us. We are doomed to fail if we cannot unite behind one person. The liberals seem to win at every turn. Thank you to the people in the media, you will give yourselves 4 more years of Obama. If Newt is forced out, I hope he fights on and fights the establishment. I will be right there. No Romney. No way.

The reason I see them as actually worse enemies than leftists/Dems is that the GOP is supposedly the conservative side. I’d rather have an enemy wearing an enemy uniform than an enemy pretending to be a brother in arms, but in reality has loyalty towards the other side.

Neither guy is ideal to run in the fall.

I agree with you. Bear in mind what I posted doesn't represent my own thinking about the campaign. I was answering the question posed in the thread: "Why does the GOP establishment want to run a moderate liberal? ( We will lose to Obama )"

I think Obama will destroy Romney with the class warfare campaign that began with the Occupy Wall Street movement and will only intensify. A Romney candidacy is a gift to Obama.

I think Newt has a better chance of winning, but with caveats. He's smart, knows what Obama is up to, and has the ability to frame issues in a way that can attract independents and fence-sitters as well as conservatives. But he has baggage that will be exploited by Obama's big Hollywood, union and Wall Street money. .

I really like Santorum but he just doesn't excite a broad field of voters. Frankly, as things stand, I'm preparing myself for another 4 years of Obama. But I'm hoping Newt pulls off a long shot.

Bingo. The GOP establishment is protecting the goose that lays golden eggs. They get it with either Obama or Romney.

The source of their support for allegedly "moderate" candidates is their erroneous belief that there's a BROAD MIDDLE in the American electorate that is easily tapped to win elections.

Actually, there is no middle at all. What we have are two poles of political existence in this country. One is called the Democrat party and the other is called the Republican party.

Each is made up of factions. Political ideas tend to be the same in each of the two coalitions but support for any particular public policy varies in discrete numbers.

Having explained this several times over the last few weeks let me turn to what is out there in between the parties. That's called A FRINGE. You can all sorts of things from Pat Buchanan to the Libertarian party ~ in some proximity to the Republican party.

For the Democrats you have everything from the Chicago city hall to the crazy abortionist in Philadelphia. But these are fringe groups not really part of the party, nor do they represent a complete faction with regular standing i the party.

Beyond the near pole fringe you get into the outer reaches and those folks just don't engage in politics. Not that they're bad people or anything, but they don't want to be bothered.

When a politician tells you he wants to pull in the independents and the moderates, he's looking at the Moonies ~ among others.

Romney believes there's something to be had in the middle ground ~ bwahahahaha!

His supporters are equally deluded.

In looking over the last couple of hundred Presidential elections, I can't find a single time one of these middle ground guys won.

It’s better that Romney be denied the Republican label.

I agree. It’s like what Rush said. They don’t care about the presidential election. They just want to hold on to their House and Senate seats so they can control the money.

I liked your nrw tag-line so much I stole the idea

“Conservatives asked for the lesser of two evils, but the GOP establishment said ‘screw you’.”
