Why would the GOP want to self destruct? The party knows most of the base cannot accept Romney due to his liberal stances, Romneycare and people don't trust him fully due to his positions going back and forth on important issues? The anybody but Obama plan will not work. Americans are sick of the same old network. Elites vs. the people. I spoke to hundreds of voters who are not going to back him in the general. Romney should never be on the top tier representing the Republican party. He needs to run against Obama as a democrat. Then we have both Bushes visiting with Obama a few days before the Florida primary. Now, I feel confident to say, they want Obama to win 4 more years. I cannot believe the forces will not unite to stop liberal Romney who is as close to Obama as one could get. Someone needs to audit the Treasury. Do you think Mr. Goldman Sachs will do that? If Rick thinks Mitt is such a bad candidate, why won't he unite forces to stop this being forced on us. We are doomed to fail if we cannot unite behind one person. The liberals seem to win at every turn. Thank you to the people in the media, you will give yourselves 4 more years of Obama. If Newt is forced out, I hope he fights on and fights the establishment. I will be right there. No Romney. No way.
Stop and think about it. Romney has run for election 22 times in his life and lost 17 of them.
As someone else previously said a week or two ago on another thread...
"What a swell idea. Let's run the guy who LOST to the guy, who LOST the last election"
Simply put: Romney couldn't beat McCain for the nomination last time so now they run him against Obama this time. The FIX is in.
Take your Pick. Obama or Obama Lite-(Romney).
I. Will. Not. Vote. For. Romney. Ever.
Also, don’t be surprised if the Bush’s are involved. The want the 2012 nominee defeated to pave the way for a Jeb Bush run in 2016.
Hear me know. The Bush;s are scum. The Republican version of the Kennedy’s
I think you’re missing the point here :) it’s not that Romney is more electable than Newt...he probably is...but so what? What’s the point of electing another liberal over a marxist???
Romney will just take longer to collapse the system. Obama is ready to push us over the cliff now.
Personally, I’d rather fight a out-and-out marxist...at least we know where we stand.
Romeny is a Massachusetts liberal...he will say he isn’t, but he is. His entire history is one of liberalism. From pro-abortion to unlimited immigration.
Third party is our only choice this time.
Most Americans do not realize how close America will be finished. Too bad the old people in FL voted too early and most don’t have a clue who Romney is.
The GOP Establishment is one and athe same as the Democrat Establishment. The is only one Establishment and it owns both parties! When will people wake up ans smell the dcoffee? If they don’t the American people lose their country forever!
The Establishment shsot down Herman Cain! The Establishment will have it’s way with either party! Dividing the people has worked very well for them so far. for too many Americans have been led by their noses like so many stupid oxen!
The problem is Newt fell into the trap somewhat that McCain did against Obama. Newt never should have said he “accepted” that Romney has “become more conservative.” The right line of attack would be to say he doesn’t believe it and that actions speak louder than words. That misstep does make me worry slightly about Newt going up against Obama in the general, but it’s still far better to lose with Newt than to win with Romney. Although I think Newt is just having a hard time going hard against Romney because he had said the election was about Obama, not about the other Republican candidates. What he has to do now is realize that Romney IS Obama.
Where is the evidence Newt’s not popular in those swing states? There have been polls that showed both Romney and Newt 48-50 against Obama recently. Polls right now mean absolutely nothing. Kerry was ahead of Bush by 7 points even 4 months before that election.
I’m a Pennsylvanian and can tell you Newt will do far, far better than Romney in those states. They don’t like wealthy elites in blue collar industrial states. They like patriotism and populism, Newt’s strong points.
BTW, “approval ratings” mean very little. Those polls ask ALL Americans, not just voters, if they view a candidate “favorably.” We can very easily end up with most people “liking” Obama better than the Republican, but thinking Obama’s less qualified to be or less effective as President.
That is the plan. It has been obvious to some of us since 2008: Obama will get two terms. McCain and Romney get cameos as “Former Presidential Candidates” with the attendant book deals and speaking fee increases. The Republican party had no intention of winning in 2008 and has no intention of winning this year or, apparently, ever again. Newt, Palin, Cain - anyone who actually has a chance to win against Obama, must be destroyed and cannot be allowed on the ballot because they might just squeak one out in spite of the media and massive vote fraud.
Bernard, that’s a theory that has been consistently espoused by many of these so-called elites, but it’s been debunked over and over and over again. Jonah Goldberg said the elites are MORE afraid that Newt will defeat Obama than that he will lose. They are divided on whether he can win or not.
Likewise, the theory you’re saying makes no sense. They’re assuming Newt will somehow maximize liberal turnout, and get more no votes on House and Senate Republicans. Makes no sense, since Obama is a hardcore extremist socialist who has delivered ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING his base wanted. The liberal base is going to turn out in massive numbers. If we nominate a squishy moderate, in theory we could attract more moderate voters, who will only vote for conservative House and Senate candidates maybe HALF the time. OTOH, if we maximize conservatice turnout with a conservative candidate, they are guaranteed to pull the lever for Republicans down ticket.
If the elites you talk to think that conservatives are going to turn out “no matter what,” they’re going to be very surprised in November. We are not going to have our votes taken for granted. And we won’t for someone like Romney who has done more to advance the causes of liberalism and socialism in government than any Republican in history and is an unethical, unprincipled liar to boot.
That’s the nice way to look at the phenomenon. I take also a somewhat darker view. They GOP establishment types actually are not conservative, do not honor the Constitution, feel scorn towards us hoi polloi who don’t have the polish, insider/elitist contacts and lifestyle they have; some of us are poor, not so educated, and hold what to them are “extremist” views and ways of life. Many of the GOP elitists are not morally or socially conservative at all, so that is another reason they scorn us. They also feed off of attention from the MSM and fellow elitists and could give a rip what we think of them.
They are kissing cousins of the Dems, they have much more fellow feeling towards Dems/leftsits than they do towards the conservative believing and voting (when we get a chance!) populace. They actually prefer the status quo, do not want a return to Constitutional governance. They actually don’t care much about “winning” elections as they do about maintaining their hold on power, which they can have via money, lobbying and so on, whether the Rs or Ds win.
I view them just as much the enemy as Dems/leftists, if not more so.
At least Newt thinks that your basic American voter is intelligent enough to go to the toilet wipe, flush ,wash hands in the correct order without a platoon of govt. flunkies keeping track of me while I attend to business .
That may be the plan
You are correct, sir...

Newtzilla to the Rescue
The other night while having drinks with some prominent conservatives, I said I thought there was a significant chance that Gingrich will not only win the nomination but that he might be the next president. Going by their expressions, I might as well have said I had put a slow-acting poison in their cocktails.
The conservative establishment knows Gingrich, or at least thinks it does. The insiders worry Bachmann, Perry, and Cain arent smart enough or cant beat President Obama. The stop-Newters have no doubts about how smart Gingrich is.
As to whether he can beat Obama, opinions vary. But many feel that a Gingrich victory might be scarier than a GOP defeat. Gingrichs defenders say such fear is a compliment because it shows that hes a change agent threatening the status quo.
They have a point...hes always been very clear that he wants to (fundamentally, historically, categorically, and radically) overturn the existing order.
You hit it on the head. What tells the big story is the money brought to bear in support of Obama and Romney. That alone should make any American with half a brain vote against either one of these two. Romney’s well of campaign money is not there simply because he started early, he is a good manager and he has lots of support (his support doesn’t go deep at all).
It is time to take our country back from the elite who are pulling the strings on both sides of the aisle.
