Anti-Newt Backlash? Drudge Drops Two Million Hits in One Day
Friday, January 27, 2012 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/27/2012 7:37:02 AM PST by kristinn

The Drudge Report saw a drop in traffic yesterday of two million hits in the wake of proprietor Matt Drudge's two-day attack on Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich.

Drudge started his attack on Gingrich Wednesday evening with a banner headline accusing Gingrich of insulting former President Ronald Reagan. Drudge carried on the attack all through Thursday, at one time having fourteen anti-Newt headlines at once.

The assault on Gingrich prompted many supporters to announce they were swearing off the Drudge Report with some saying they would stop using it as their home page.

According to statistics posted by the Drudge Report, the site's hits on Wednesday, January 26, were 33, 807, 227.

Yesterday the hits, as published today on the Drudge Report, were down a full two million to 31, 802, 534.

He’s free to attack anyone he wishes on his own site. Visitors are free to go elsewhere. Ain’t America grand.

I am one of them. I will not go to his site anymore. I sent them a really nice message in the box at the lower right of his site as well.

I guess Matt Drudge the moron would rather have Romney the Rino of Zero instead.

Say, you know there could be a real strategy here...

Suppose 1 million people set the Drudgereport as their homepage, and that each hits it on average of once a day. That’s a million hits.

Then suppose he does something like this attack on Gingrich, and all those million people change their homepage, thus dropping the hitcount by a million. That would hit him right in the wallet, the only place it will do any good. Over time you could shape and in essence control the content.

All it would take is 1 million cooperative souls and some way to coordinate their actions...hmmm....

That kinda interesting, since from my perpective, the attacks on Newt had me over at Drudge far more than usual.

I stopped going to Drudge yesterday. If I wanted to get my news from the liberal media I would go to the DU, cBS, msDNC or other pro Romney / pro Obama websites.

I get my news FreeRepublic and from a list of hundreds of Conservative blogs/sites at http://www.cafenetamerica.com

Also from twitter feeds

Actually a few days ago I was thinking that it’s possible that many who use to go to Drudge will eventually get their conservative news from Twitter. I have noticed many good articles posted on Twitter lately.

Yep. I don’t go there for crap I could get on a liberal website. Ever since he went on a disinformation tirade against Newt, I decided to seek out more credible sources for my news.

If drudge was fair about what was going on, that would be one thing. All those hit pieces in one day was clearly coordinated.

There’s plenty of other places for news headlines. I’m not visiting drudge again any time soon.

Drudge used to be my homepage but I will never visit his site again. The way he smeared Newt yesterday as anti-Reagan was repulsive. It really doesn’t get any lower than that especially coming from the Romney campaign!

Am wondering why pro-Newt ad is not there. that said; hope Newt capitalizes on Mitt’s canned-for-moderates - and ignorant- Dems, NASA response.

He only dropped 2 million because the media attention of his attacks drew new hits. Wait till the attention of the story dies. Really bad calculation, Matt. Look out below...and say hi to Ann while you’re down there.

This is actually scary since we have no idea what forces were at work to make him do this.

Guaranteeed, there was direct outside influence.

What was it?
