Gingrich Threatens to Skip Debates if Audiences Can’t Participate [another NY Slimes lie]
NYT ^ | Tuesday January 24, 2012 | Gingrich Threatens to Skip Debates if Audiences Can’t Participate

Posted on 01/24/2012 8:21:28 AM PST by Bigtigermike

Newt Gingrich insists his fans will not be silenced.

Mr. Gingrich, a former House speaker, on Tuesday morning threatened not participate in any future debates with audiences that have been instructed to be silent. That was the case on Monday, when Brian Williams of NBC News asked the audience of about 500 people who assembled for a debate in Tampa to hold their applause until the commercial breaks.

In an interview with the morning show “Fox and Friends,” Mr. Gingrich said NBC’s rules amounted to stifling free speech. In what has become a standard line of attack for his anti-establishment campaign, Mr. Gingrich blamed the media for trying to silence a dissenting point of view.

As pointed out earlier....if you want the audience to play such a role, how would you feel about a debate between Gingrich and Obama where the audience is packed with Obama supporters?

Well, if the audience is not allowed to react, that is how it will be. The MSM will be asking the questions, just as they are now. The liberal media will frame the questions or pick the submitted questions, as they please.

There was audience reaction just to some of the questions being asked in the course of these debates. That was a good thing. It serves to keep the media in line.

You missed Newt’s point...it isn’t about the audiance...’it’s about the medias control’ of what people might otherwise do were it not for them attempting control over them.

Newt knows who the enemy of freedom is and has made it very clear he will call them out when they attempt to control.

needs repeated...

Their headline is inaccurate.

Gingrich essentially states that he regretted not saying anything last night, but that in future debates he will speak up for the audience to be able to applaud or cheer. Further, he said that he felt that what the media’s fear was the audience siding with the candidates against the media!

We have to teach the American people to stop just reading/listening to what is placed in front of them and to start actually listening to what the candidates are saying!

May God grant us strength, wisdom and courage.
Tatt

The title should be changed to something like..

“Gingrich encourages Audience to participate”

They’re not going to want to help Newt

Pretty much can stop right there. Of course they would not want to help Romney either, now would they?

The greatest event would be to see the left having to sit thru Newt and Rick and Mitt and Paul talk about Republican values.

Not clapping or booing or cheering.

Can we have this at the State of The Union tonight. I would love not a word from either side.

IMHO the audience gets to do whatever it wants outside of heckling and taking up too much time.Telling them to be quite is the ultimate slap from the media. They don’;t want you to be able to decides who won they want to tell you who won.

Was the audience silenced at Lincoln versus Douglas debates

especially after their long winded orations?

I doubt it

btw...Lincoln Douglas is not a debate

it’s comparative speech giving..folks today would change the channel

Gingrich is the only one with ideas and specifics, and as the Fox News Channel, he wasn’t on there as a presidential candidate and whatever his ideas were, nobody was thinking of them as something that might become a reality or have any impact beyond speculation.

The debates are a different matter, but what he will do if he doesn’t go on the TV debates is simply give speeches and get coverage, exactly the way he said he will debate Obama if Obama refuses live debates.

Well, the response from the LSM was exactly what I expected.. this was well planned for effect, and hopefully, the public knows better and can see through all of the govt. news media and their tactics.

As for the ones here.. I usually ignore them but sometimes stick my head up. You are much better at speaking your mind than me ;)

Yes they would if they thought he was the easier candidate for Obama to beat. It is no surprise to anyone that the msm is trying to choose a candidate for us.

Since audience reaction is so offensive,,why have an audience? I suspect there are many who believe that tonight’s SOTU address should be met with only silence and no applause/reaction from the chamber. How sterile.

“I wish in retrospect I’d protested when Brian Williams took them out of it because I think it’s wrong,” Mr. Gingrich said. “And I think he took them out of it because the media is terrified that the audience is going to side with the candidates against the media, which is what they’ve done in every debate."

Indeed.

He missed a most golden opportunity that would have set the debate on fire!

Mark Steyn (subbing for Rush) was eloquent on this subject in the first half-hour of the show today. Compared MSM to N. Korea dictating the amount of weeping and wailing the peons MUST display. Criticized the audience for easily giving up their rights and going along with the NBC/RNC decree to STFU.

Give your head a shake and wake up from that nap. It's not about bring 'professional' it is all about the media (NBC in this case) not wanting the audience to voice their views and opinions regarding the statements of the candidates and/or the always biased and slanted questions of the lamestream media talking heads.

You go ahead and defend the media. Newt and the rest of us will defend the First Amendment.
