~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Pine Bluff Arsenal, Arkansas

The Pine Bluff Arsenal (PBA) is a United States Army installation located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. PBA is one of the six Army installations in the United States which stores chemical weapons. PBA supplies specialized production, storage, maintenance and distribution of readiness products, and delivers technical services to the Armed Forces and Homeland Security.

PBA also designs, manufactures and refurbishes smoke, riot control, and incendiary munitions, as well as chemical/biological defense operations items. It serves as a technology center for illuminating and infrared munitions and is also the only place in the Northern Hemisphere where white phosphorus munitions are filled. Its Homeland Security mission includes first-responder equipment training and surveillance of prepositioned equipment.

PBA satisfies the Department of Defense’s peace time and replenishment requirements by providing the U.S. and allied forces with critical products and services that are primarily unavailable from other sources.

PBA also provides specialized training and logistical support for the Department of Homeland Security. PBA’s core primary missions include: conventional ammunition, chemical biological defense, engineering and technical support, mobile and powered systems support and base operations support to numerous tenant activities. Also a conventional depot, PBA has 1.3 million square feet of storage capacity with over 75,000 tons of inventory.

PBA has the capability to produce, renovate and store over 60 different conventional ammunition products ranging in caliber from 440 mm to 175 mm. 85 percent of these products are produced only at PBA. The Arsenal’s specialties include production of munitions containing payloads for smoke (signaling, spotting and obscuration), non-lethal, riot control, incendiary, illumination and infrareduses.

Smoke payload capabilities include white phosphorous, red phosphorous, terephathalic acid (TA) and hexaclorethane (HC) for both munitions and grenades. PBA is the only facility with the capability to fill white phosphorous munitions. The Arsenal is capable of producing munitions designed to provide friendly forces the capability to stop, confuse, disorient or momentarily deter a potential threat without use of deadly force.

Chemical/biological defense is a growing field of expertise at PBA. The Arsenal’s leadership in the field of protective mask fabrication, repair and recertification dates back to the late 1970s. Today, PBA is the Army’s sole facility for the repair and rebuild of the M17 series,
M9A1, M24, M25A1 and M40 masks as well as the M20 breathing apparatus. The Arsenal fabricates, fits, and tests chemical biological protective filters in various sizes and configurations.

CB Defense industrial capabilities at PBA include the manufacture of personnel and equipment decontamination kits; repair, renovation and testing of chemical protective clothing; and the rebuild and calibration of defensive chemical test equipment. Since the nation’s increased focus on homeland defense, PBA has initiated programs for the training of civilian first responders and providing CB Defense technical equipment assistance and training for local jurisdictions.

OMG...this Gilda has a lovely timbre to her voice, but she has so many breaks, I can’t believe it. her mid range is exquisite, but she chops it off to go to her head voice for the really high notes. And the role has “quite a few” high notes! LOL!

Gutters And Windows

January 24, 2012

While we were out for a family drive, a spotless white sign with perfect red lettering caught my attention: “Gutters and Windows—Quality Work Guaranteed.” The sign was pristine, but I feared the house and barn directly behind it might collapse at any moment. The paint was peeling, the windows were cracked, and the gutters were nonexistent!

Many of us “advertise” for Jesus, but our spiritual houses are in disrepair. We may attend church, speak in “Christianese,” and mingle nicely with others. But when our conduct does not align with our hearts, our first-class behavior is just a performance of piety. When Jesus confronted the Pharisees, He said, “You . . . outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness” (Matt. 23:28).

Jesus had a different but equally direct message for His followers: “Do not be like the hypocrites” (6:16). The Bible encourages us to “love from a pure heart . . . and from sincere faith” (1 Tim. 1:5). These inner attitudes should pour out through our words and actions (Luke 6:45).

Today, consider the state of your spiritual house. If people look beyond the beautiful outward display, will they discover an authentic heart?

Hypocrisy is a common sin
That grieves the Lord above;
He longs for those who’ll worship Him
In faith and truth and love. —Bosch

God desires that our actions be a reflection of a pure heart.

Read: Matthew 23:23-31

Love from a pure heart . . . and from sincere faith. —1 Timothy 1:5

Exodus 28-31

June Anderson was the Gilda in the production I was thinking of. No breaks - smooth transition through the registers. I think Leo Nucci made a carer of singing Rigoletto - He must have been in a dozen productions during the late 70's - early 80's.

I don't know when we'll see his like again. I'm not aware of any tenor of equal quality active today. No disparagement intended to Domingo or Carreras - they are pretty much finished although they still make an occasional appearance.

I had the good fortune to sing in the Choir for the Papal Mass in Washington during Pope Benedict's 2008 visit. Domingo sang exquisitely at that Mass - Panis Angelicus. One of the most memorable experiences of my adult life.

WOW! That is amazing!

I love Placido, but his voice has a whole different quality than Pavarotti. Pavarotti made it look so EFFORTLESS.

I am watching the quartet right now...amazing!

Not a very good day, Kathy. Pulled or tore a muscle in my right side - between ribs - last Thursday or so. Over the succeeding days it has gotten progressively more painful.

This morning I woke up in severe pain - somewhat fortuitously, I had a Dr's. appointment this morning for pre-op clearance for a minor procedure I'm having next week. The Dr. examined me and determined that it was indeed a muscle pull or tear and put me on strong painkillers (Tramadol). They are providing some relief, although they tend to wear out pretty quickly.

I did not make it in to the office today and I cancelled my PT scheduled for this evening.

I will go in tomorrow regardless of how I feel - can't afford to miss any work at this time. Hopefully, the painkillers will provide enough relief to enable me to do my job.

Oh, no...can’t seem to get all of your in good shape at the same time. That kind of pain is not fun AT ALL! No matter what you do, it HURTS!

Hope the meds help you get through the day. Be careful driving!!!

It sure would be nice if they let you work from home.
