PULLED IN TWO DIRECTIONS
Our Daily Bread July 29, 1998
"To me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. ... I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ. (Philippians 1:21,23)
As Christians, we are pulled in two directions. We all want to go to heaven, but this life also holds great appeal. We are like the youngster in Sunday school who listened intently while the teacher told about the beauties of heaven. She concluded by saying, "Raise your hand if you want to go to heaven." Every hand shot up immediately--except one. "Why don't you want to go to heaven, Johnny?" "Well," he replied, "Mom just baked an apple pie for dinner."
The apostle Paul had mixed feelings too. Although he believed he would be released from prison, he knew that he could possibly fall victim to Nero's sword. This created a conflict. He longed to be with Christ, for that would be "far better" (Philippians 1:23). He also wanted to live, not merely to enjoy life, but because he was needed by his fellow believers (v.24).
Paul was pulled in two directions, and in both cases it was for the highest reason. What about us?

I wouldn’t mind getting back into the recording scene.
It was a lot of fun talking “shop” with the producer.

Good afternoon Kathy, I need to see if any of the Canteen regulars can help me in a quest I’m involved in.
My wifes, brother is looking at some heart surgery that he may not survive, and I’m charged with trying to locate he medical records and medals from his time in Vietnam.
He was in the 2nd bn 509th of the 101st from 1966 to 1968 and it appears the exit facility for those records experienced a fire at some time so I’m trying to see if there might be any other avenues to locate this info.
All responses are welcome tho any personal stuff I would rather do via frmail or personal email.
Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon, Pete-R-Bilt.
The first step, if you do this online, is to go to the National Archives and Records Administration to learn how to access military records.
Records for a servicemember who separated less than 60 years ago are considered non-archival and must be requested by mail, if I read this page correctly. The link above will take you to the proper online place to request those records. While the servicemember is alive, he must be the one to request the records. He doesn't necessarily have to be the one to do the legwork and all; he just needs to be the one who signs the request.
If this takes you down too many rabbit trails; you can look into asking your local Veteran's Administration Service Center to help you acquire your brother-in-law's Official Military Personnel File (OMPF).
