"The Obama administration has drawn an unprecedented line in the sand. The Catholic bishops are committed to working with our fellow Americans to reform the law and change this unjust regulation. We will continue to study all the implications of this troubling decision.
"In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences. To force American citizens to choose between violating their consciences and forgoing their healthcare is literally unconscionable." (Cardinal Designate Dolan, Abp of New York, President, USCCB)
The moment that President Obama nominated Governor Kathleen Sebelius to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services he sent the signal of where he would lead this nation. Sadly, many people did not see the signs, including some Catholics.
Of course, anyone who heard former Presidential candidate Obama utter his "that's above my pay grade" answer to Reverend Rick Warren's question as to "when a baby gets human rights" - either had their head in the sand - or was no friend of children in the womb themselves.
This President does not respect the fundamental Human Right to Life, period. Sorry Doug Kmiec and all the others who were snowed by his sophistry, the truth is now very clear and I sincerely hope you join in the necessary resistance to this unjust administration....
...To translate this Edict, the American Caesar has spoken and given the Catholic Church 13 months to comply with its unjust regulation or face punitive consequences.

hunh. well, one wonders who even has a conscience these days.
This is going to get bad for all of us (Catholics, Evangelicals and Orthodox Jews).
Actually, Orthodox Jews represent a very tiny proportion of the population so they might be allowed to slip by. Probably Catholics will be hit the worst, because they have bgger insttitutions and institutional charities, and then the Evangelicals will start feeling it - a church at a time, since there is no Evangelical “big church” that would unite these independent groups and could be attacked as a whole.
This is a seriously bad move by Obama - and he’ll probably get away with it.
Freep-mail me to get on or off my pro-life and Catholic List:
Please ping me to note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of general interest.
Another reason to knock these guys out of power.
Should be used in political commercials.
Every day, it’s something else from these people.
Abp. Niederauer has dropped the ball on Pelosi, I think.
Part of the long ongoing agenda of the CPUSA to cause collapse from within to, among other aims, destroy any sense of morality in the US.
These very same people, of course, would laud any member of the military under a republican administration who disobeys an order he considers to be illegal, as a “matter of conscience.”
Conscience: it’s all relative. Just like morals with liberals.
I'll go for this. If your on welfare and you breed, your on your own. No gimmies nada.
WE THE PEOPLE are not your sugardaddy
I suspect that you’re right, livius, but we cannot give in, at all. I’m sure that the Church has some modernist, or perhaps ill-formed folks who somehow try to reconcile a desire to get along with true Catholic teachings. But in this, they cannot, at their own peril. The line drawn is the expected one, and we cannot give in.
I hope and pray that the evangelical groups, or perhaps at least some of them, see that while we are the primary target, this will eventually affect all Christians that don’t tow the progressive line. On the other hand, to be quite blunt, there is nothing in my life as valued to me as my faith.
Well, let’s do a recent tally: Obama has
1. Made recess appointments when Congress was not in recess,
2. Said he will sell/give defense secrets to Russia and no one can stop him,
3. Ordered Catholics and other religious people to violate their conscience by funding the killing of innocent life.
I’d say he’s quite the dictator.
The employers will just not provide insurance benefits anymore, easy
And relativism really is a dictatorship, forbidding absolutes.
Gawd they make me sick.
They have been pushing for socialized medicine for decades and many conservatives have been warning Catholics that this is exactly what would happen.
In the name of "Christian compassion" the various churches have been tearing down all checks on the leviathan's power.
Now the leviathan will turn and consume the very people who gave it life.
They can't act all surprised now.
I believe I posted something to that affect on your blog BEFORE the law was past, Arch. That was back when you were as quiet as a, err, churchmouse on the topic and only Bishop Nickless in Iowa was speaking out about obamacare.
My pet theory is that Kennedy delivered the "catholic" vote in exchange for it.
I think some Evangelicals will stand up, but the problem from an institutional point of view is that they are very fragmented and it depends on their pastor. I’m Catholic and I live in Florida. All my Evangelical friends here go to “their own” church. While in theory they all subscribe to the general outlook described as “Evangelical,” there’s no unifiying institutional bond and each church is basically a free agent.
But as you say, the important thing is the Faith, so regardless of how few or scattered we are, all we people of good will are going to do our our best to maintain it.
BTW, I read elsewhere that Bambi called Cdl Dolan personally this morning to rub his nose in it. And it’s not 13 months, it’s about five months (Aug 2012).
I hate Obama so much I probably won’t be able to go to Communion until I can get to confession.
I believe Obama knows just how far he can go with the Catholic Church. If Obama felt that the Catholic clergy was as pro-life as the 200,000 pro-life marchers going to Washinton this Monday,he would change his tune.I still wonder if Obama might get a majority of the vote of the Catholic clergy in 2012.It is sad but possible.
