According to ABC, Marianne Gingrich became the subject of an FBI sting operation in Paris in the late 1990s, involving an arms dealer working undercover for the U.S. government. The network said the investigation was dropped but that the then-Mrs. Gingrich had claimed that she could “get things done” in Congress and had sought a $500,000 down payment as part of a $10 million bribe to influence her husband.
Marianne Gingrich denied the accusation and blamed it on an unnamed convicted felon.
“This is all made-up, fabricated hogwash,” said the former Mrs. Gingrich, laughing off the suggestion that she had tried to profit from her then-speaker husband’s position. “Heavens, no,” she said, while acknowledging that she had met with the man.

Somebody posted the transcript of part of the investigation yesterday. I don’t know why she’s not in jail, except that she broke off “negotiations” with this person and no money ever changed hands.
It was determined by the FBI that Newt Gingrich never knew anything about it, so that indicates to me that she never really thought she could pull this off. She was just trying to entice her victim with bigger and bigger promises, so that he would give her the initial down-payment. Then she probably planned to say that the deal simply wasn’t going to work...and what was the victim going to say? “I tried to bribe a government official and I got cheated?”
She says some vicious things about Newt Gingrich in the transcript, btw. “I want to get everything I can out of him, the only thing he is to me is what I can use him for,” etc.
Great couldn’t happen to a better group.
now it all becomes clear... SHE was more than likely the one being investigated....
Yes, Marianne was the subject of the investigation. It concluded that she should be investigated further for possible violations of laws such as the Hatch Act, but SFAIK it never went any further, probably because she was never able to pull off any part of her scheme.
It’s starting to sound like this woman has had serious mental problems for a long time. That could explain a lot about Newt’s maritial problems, and reluctance to talk about it, and his anger at the media.
She SHOULD be in jail. She ATTEMPTED selling influence....and was CAUGHT doing it!!
Don’t lose sight of the fact that MARIANNE BROKE UP Newt’s first marriage. What goes around...?! Early into his marriage to HER, Newt realized what a mistake he’d made. The scuttlebutt has it that during counselling with a pastor prior to N & M’s divorce, Newt kept saying to the pastor who was trying to reconcile them, “She’s a Jaguar! I can’t handle a Jaguar right now. All I want is a plain old Chevy!” (Minor paraphrasing).
She’s certainly no Cougar. More like an AMC Pacer, IMHO.

Seems to me like a clear case of politically-motivated entrapment.
Without proof of influence peddling it’s a dubious charge as it’s very hard to prove without actually doing it. Like charging someone with grand theft for offering to sell someone AF1.
Only Keystone cops and dictatorships use presumptive evidence as grounds for arrest.
The stupidity of ABC and MSM running with this “Newt” story is absolutely amazing.
Even if it was being pushed by either Mitt or nobama, are they all as dumb as Dan Blather?
Not even counting this FBI investigation revalation, the Ex could not have generated much sympathy due to the sourness projected.
If the audience reaction at the debate was any indication of the effect of the ABC smear piece, it likely bumped Newt upward.
Good for Newt! He is lighting a fire. Maybe we will soon be seeing Mitt fade like in 08.

What is Obama doing with SEIU, the Unions , the envirowhacko’s, and the Homosexuals if not peddling his influence for their dollars?

And why is she being given any credibility- especially in light of her saying that she wants to take Newt for everything he has?
What an ugly, ugly animal. I can’t remember seeing so much self-hatred, self-loating, bitterness and vengefulness in any one area in my entire life.
