Perry Drops Out. Endorses Newt. Will Campaign and Serve.
Red State ^ | January 19th | Erick Erickson

I’m told reliably that Governor Perry will head up a 10th Amendment project for Speaker Gingrich to rally Governors and state legislators toward a plan of devolving power from Washington. This project will include helping shape the Republican platform for the general election.

Governor Perry will also campaign for Speaker Gingrich in Texas.

Ok, I take back all the mean things I said about Perry. He is doing the right thing.

I still don’t like Newt but its looking like a three man race now with Ron Paul, Mitt $50Abortions Romney and Newt Gingrich. Of the three, Newts the best followed by Ron Paul. I will never vote for Mitt $50Abortions Romney.

I’d probably vote for Santorum if I lived in SC though but I think he is out of contention.

Everyone who made uncivil comments need to apologize to each other’s Candidates. It has been ugly.

I think it is time to focus on Romney being replaced.

I don’listen to Beck any more but the radio was on his show when I got in the truck this morning, I usually change stations when that happens. Beck was in a full anti-Newt rant and was raging, I could visualize foam on his mouth, I think he’s gone compleatly nuts and he may be taking Newt’s possible sucess as a personal rejection of himself. By holdig his own event earlier than the proposed second Tea Party March on Washington he weakened it and the Tea Party and made that about himself. He’s done a lot of good but I believe that he himself has succumbed to some of the same weaknesses that he critizes others for. I’ll pray for him.

Now we need Santorum doing the same. We need to get this down to a manageable number. Paul is Paul and will do nothing for the GOP other than continue to screw it all up. Santorum needs to read the tea leaves and make a decision based on what America needs, not his own desires.

You are absolutely correct. The childishness that has been displayed throughout this campaign on FR has been maddening and so uncivil, mostly I just learn to skip over some posts.

Lets qualify that a bit: Everything said about Romney is fair game. lol

Time to take Romney out and it WILL BE DONE.

I’d like to see that as well. All of this infighting isn’t doing a thing for us.

All of this infighting isn’t doing a thing for us.

It's been the problem all along. Too many irons in the fire. Too many candidates to dilute the chance of any one really taking on Romney who can't sustain over 25% for any length of time. But that's meant the Romney opposition has been divided, both nationally and here on FR.

Now that the field's being winnowed, I'm hoping Romney's negatives will become far too cumbersome for him to turn this around. But that would be insured by a Santorum resignation and subsequent support of Gingrich.

I think this is great - I was a Perry supporter early on, but I just didn’t think he had what it took in communication skills to get ahead. He improved a lot over the course of the campaign, but this whole thing is moving so fast that it was too late for him. (It’s way too fast - why have the rest of the states even bother to vote, if it’s going to be decided by IA, NH, and SC or Florida?)

I agree, there was a lot of viciousness and I think people were putting way too much emphasis on the personalities of “their” candidates rather than on their ideas and maybe identifying with them too closely. But now we’re down to the ideas part of the campaign, and I think Perry, oddly enough, may actually stand out more now that he’s not running for anything.

And I think Gingrich has what it takes, like him or not, and having solid people like Perry around will be a big plus for him. I hope Mitt Romney loses BIG in SC!

My biggest fear is Romney. I sincerely believe that Gingrich can overcome him and win the nomination, but why make it more difficult than it has to be? Santorum must drop out.

I don’t see the problem being Romney so much as it is the GOP establishment elite. If Romney were ‘on his own’ similar to Perry, Santorum, Cain, et al, he wouldn’t likely be this far along. Sure, with all the candidates in the field (at least at first) the votes would still be diluted, but I doubt Romney would poll as well as he has.

The problem, in my mind, is the GOP establishment elites who’ve been forcing Romney down our throats. Forcing a candidate the electorate really doesn’t want (proven by his inability to gain against the others). We’re not only fighting Romney, we’re fighting them. They’re the big problem, IMO.

Good that you have broad shoulders as Gov. Perry has. He did very well and has the Pride of Texas to go home to, yet he will continue to fight for Newt.

I too liked Perry, just I liked Newt more. I also like Santorum, he too is a fine, decent man, yet with him as well it is time for him to make the sacrifice for the good of our country.

Perry and Santorum will have their day and we will/should support them in whatever office they choose in the future. Either of them as VP would be Super.

God Bless America, the Tea Party conservatives and Newt Gingrich. I smell spring.

Yes that’s true, but we still have to render to Ceasar...we just need to find the right Ceasar.

I am extremely more impressed with Perry today, than I was yesterday.

The man does not cravenly lust for power so badly that he MUST stay in the race, nor has he been paid off by anyone to mess up the race for conservatives.

It's the GOP establishment, the MSM, and the Left who are attempting to foist Romney on us, as well as some Republicans who are not terribly conservative.

Go figure.
