An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Wednesday night has former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now leading the Republican primary race in South Carolina.
The poll of likely Republican primary voters has Gingrich with 32 percent, ahead of Mitt Romney who trailed close behind at 29 percent.
The results are a significant reversal for Romney, who had led polls before Tuesday's Fox News debate. A poll conducted by InsiderAdvantage last Sunday showed Romney with a double-digit lead over Gingrich.
The InsiderAdvantage poll is the first major South Carolina survey after the debate. Gingrich has been crediting with winning the debate.
The poll found that support for Ron Paul and Rick Santorum is faltering, with both pulling 15 and 11 percent, respectively.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry finished last with just 3 percent of the vote. Three percent of those polled selected "other candidate" and 7 percent said they had no opinion.
The survey polled 718 registered Republican voters.

more like your father should have pulled out. Sorry, I couldn’t resist BK.
There is no way you can call an ex-wife an October surprise. Everyone knows about the two ex-wives. Marianne is just going to come across as a bitter woman. Most people will probably have little sympathy and understand why she lost her man. That may be unfair without hearing her but stating publicly that she wants to take down Newt’s campaign gives us a glimpse of her bitterness.
But there is little surprise here. Just the same as if we were to hear some story about 0bama snorting coke and exchanging bj’s with some dude in the back of a limousine.
OUCH! That’s gonna leave a mark.
(wish I’d said that.....)
Umm, why?
“Because they are hurting Newt”.
Doesn’t seem to be the case, now does it?
“Because they are running for their ego”.
Also doesn’t seem to be the case.
PO’ Ol’ Perry.
He sure is an ***hole. /s
I watched that debate. He rocked the house.
What gives?
Newt has been making hay for days off of Perry asking for Mitts tax forms.
Perry was first out of the gate to Whack Obama on the “keystone pipeline decision” today
I just don’t get it.
Drudge says he isn’t gay. David Brock and a landscaper say he is. I’ll go with Matt on that one.
Isn’t that convenient for the Newt bashers? will not give him much time to respond. The news channels will be airing it 24/7 on friday and saturday...just in time to try and bring Gingrich down.
In tommorow night’s debate, Newt to ask Romeny POINT BLANK why his operatives are ABC News (and the rest of the traitorous US news media) are trying to destroy EVERY SINGLE CHALLENGER to his nomination.
Like Gordon Gecko.
I was somewhat facetious there. don’t really think she had all tha mcuh to do with it. I don’t think any endorsement really matters all that much.
Except a Gov or Sen who controls a machine. They matter. But out of state or natl figures really don’t/
Was definitely joking about the Piper endorsement. Although, Piper did seem pretty popular back at The Villages in 08. Maybe she’s the secret weapon for FL. Take that Jeb Bush.
But this does show her timing and judgment. She did it when it would be most effective.
Look at Romney and how he played Haley a month ago. It’s old news already. Now, if Romney had siad “thanks, Governor, but lets hold off and you can announce it right befor the primary when it will have the most impact” that’d have been the smart play.
Same with Christie. he’s old news by now.
Who does Romney have left to play? Jeb? W? Cheney? Huckabee?(I can’t see Huck doing it based on 08).
But she did have good timing with this.
Hey no worries. I got a sense of humor.
I imagine the polling was concluded before a) Sarah Palin said she’d vote for Newt and b) Marianne Gingrich’s story was ‘leaked.’ The change has everything to do with Newt’s performance in Monday night’s debate.
True conservatives must immediately shout and holler for Perry to gracefully drop off. Romney has been coasting on a divided vote. Had Bachmann dropped off, Santorum would have handidly won Iowa. It would have slowed Romney’s momentum in NH and by now either Newt or Santorum would surge if Perry drops.
Paul and Santorum are close though! :-)
You know I had to do that!
Rick, your a nice guy! Get out of the race!
mylife,
I saupport Newt, but Rick Perry has been a class act imo. This time around, he just seemed like a kid whose father was forcing him to go out for football, and he really didn’t want to. I mean that respectfully.
He’s still young. I think he’ll have his day...when HE decides he wants it.
was done tonight, post-Palin.
