An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Wednesday night has former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now leading the Republican primary race in South Carolina.
The poll of likely Republican primary voters has Gingrich with 32 percent, ahead of Mitt Romney who trailed close behind at 29 percent.
The results are a significant reversal for Romney, who had led polls before Tuesday's Fox News debate. A poll conducted by InsiderAdvantage last Sunday showed Romney with a double-digit lead over Gingrich.
The InsiderAdvantage poll is the first major South Carolina survey after the debate. Gingrich has been crediting with winning the debate.
The poll found that support for Ron Paul and Rick Santorum is faltering, with both pulling 15 and 11 percent, respectively.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry finished last with just 3 percent of the vote. Three percent of those polled selected "other candidate" and 7 percent said they had no opinion.
The survey polled 718 registered Republican voters.

Now that Newt is ahead, that is why sick operatives llke gay Drudge are so desperate to take him down. It’s outrageous that someone like Drudge with so much to hide has the audacity to hype personal attacks against Newt for crap that is none of his business.
Good. I want them to come at Newt full throttle. That’s when he shines the best.
Thanks for the thought, and one would think that's the case, using logic - but don't bet on it.
I don’t think any of Newt’s female base will be demoralized - they knew this going in for him - and divorces males all over will feel kinship. No cigar, Mittens, HA HA!
But Mittens is going to have a problem undoing his new robber-baron reality. Extracting wealth from employees and hiding in the Caymans. Kinda like Richard Gere’s character from Pretty Woman mated with Gene Hackman’s character from The Firm.
LOOTER ROMNEY.
Got to hand it to them. The timing of the ex-wife interview orchestrated by Romney/nobama/axelrod/rove is absolutely perfect!
*********
Well, desperate anyway.
But Chuck, these people who now have just turned to Newt know he’s been a bad husband... and beyond that the airwaves are saturated with negative ads against Newt’s character—— I have to believe these particular voters are inured to the Newt negatives.
They're so transparent and yet the sheeple fall for their parlor tricks time and again.
Seems like I remember Drudge was a Freeper once?
This is registerd Republican voters. It is an open primary. Rats and Independents will show up and vote Romney and Paul just like they did NH.
Nicely done :)
It is time for the two Ricks to go home.
Good analysis. Damned open primaries are killing the race. Ron Paul would be down to about 8% otherwise.
Hmm...so Gov Palin says she’d vote for Newt and the Next day he takes the lead after being behind by 11 in the most recent poll. Not too shabby.
If Newt gets the Piper Palin endorsement tomorrow that could close the deal.
But Newt needs to remember Alec Baldwin from Glengarry Glen Ross. ABC. Always Be Closing. Always. Be. Closing.
I participated in this poll today. Got the call this afternoon. All the internal polling the last 48hrs shows Newt ahead.
“Texas Gov. Rick Perry finished last with just 3 percent of the vote. “
That means that with the margin of error, Rick Perry could be at below Zero Percent.
ya know, everybody already knows that Newt has a bitter ex-wife. It has been mentioned endlessly and, yet, here he is winning despite that. Romney wants to make old dirt fresh again. Well, good luck with that Mitt and Co. Incidentally, if Newt were a Mormon like giant douche bag, he wouldn’t have bothered divorcing her, he would have just had another wife.
Someone needs to give Matt Drudge a little of his own medicine. If he is carousing with young latino boys in the pool of his Miami penthouse, what right does he have to judge Newt?
Exactly. The earlier they dump their big guns, the more time there will be left to counter them. This is SO petty. I'm interested to see when somebody on the right is going to start exposing the pasts of the "news" people on the left, in giant headlines.
