Perry: Are "You Better Off Today Than You Were $4 Trillion Ago?"

I heard him say this phrase/question on cable, I think it’s one of the best lines of this primary.

Are the people that donated money to Perry’s campaign better off than they were 4 months ago?

It’s time for Perry to drop out so we can consolidate around a single anti-Romney candidate.

If the situation was reversed, with Perry was nipping at Romney’s heels and Newt in single digits, I’d be calling for Newt to get out so we could rally around Perry.

But, the situation isn’t reversed. Perry is in single digits. Newt’s nipping at Romney’s heels. The only think the Perry campaign can accomplish at this point is to ensure nobody catches Romney.

Is that really what his donors had in mind when they gave him money?

It is absurd that any of these candidates can be chosen so quickly. I hope they all stay in for at least another couple of months.

He was also the first to bring the war on religion to the forefront.

Perry is now losing his core supporters. When that happens your done. I’m sorry, but it’s over for Perry. Even his hard core supporters like Red State see it.

That was months before the first primary. Plenty of time for Newt to rebuild (which he obviously did).

We’re now days away from the third primary. There’s no time for Perry to rebuild. At this point all he can accomplish is to split the conservative vote and ensure Romney the nomination.

Perry's problem is not unlike Dubya's: good ideas (for the most part - better than BO, at least), but not articulate, not glib. And the fact that he is obviously (sounds like) a Texan doesn't help vis-a-vis the population at large.

It's a shame, but certainly true: in a media age, being a lively, responsive & articulate presenter matters more than sound thinking.

I recall how my rather liberal relatives would chide Bush's stumbling over words, and that's all well & good. No reason someone shouldn't have a good chuckle about a malaprop. But the attitude was more like, "How stupid!" I would point out to them, I'd rather have a good, sound person who stumbles over his words for President, than a fast-talking, glib used-car salesman.
(Sorry for the use of a derogatory stereotype, all you used-cars salesmen out there!)
But I'm afraid that the average voter just doesn't think like that, or can't seem spot a shyster (a la Slick Willie, J F'n K, or BO) when it's obvious to me.
