A big moment of last night’s debate came when moderator Juan Williams and Newt Gingrich argued over Gingrich’s comments that many have seen as condescending towards blacks. However, Williams really should have been offended due to Gingrich’s incredibly insensitive pronunciation of the word “Juan.” At least, that’s the opinion of Chris Matthews who accused Gingrich of a racial motive in the way he used Williams’ name.

Matthews’ comments came during an appearance on Andrea Mitchell Reports in which he and Mitchell discussed the tone in yesterday’s all white audience. Matthews accused Rick Perry of using terms bordering on “succession” when he talked about the South Carolina people’s “war” with the government. However, the focus was on Gingrich and Williams and particularly Williams’ first name. While Matthews agreed with a lot of what Gingrich said, he argued that this was a coded message to the crowd.
“That use of the name ‘Juan,’ the way he did it. You can’t argue these things. You either see them or you don’t. It’s just the way he did that. I sensed a little applause when he said ‘Let me help you’ when he answered the Juan question. It’s in the eye of the beholder. And, by the way, calling someone a racist is the worst way to get them to stop being racist because everyone gets defensive. … So it’s stupid to say it but, honestly, if you notice it, you sort of ought to blow the whistle. Because there is a dog whistle going on here.”
Matthews isn’t the only one accusing Gingrich of being condescending to WIlliams. Meanwhile, the Right is accusing Williams of race baiting Gingrich.
And so the Circle of Anger continues spinning, forever onward.

Chris Matthews is one of the sorriest people on tv. He is obviously nothing more than a democrat operative who will say anything to help his side and hurt the other, regardless of whether he believes what he is saying or not. And this tact is especially low, even for him. Go back and look at how Gingrich responded to Wolfe Blitzer when he brought up the fact that many of Newt’s top advisers left his campaign early on — or look at any other time during the debates that he took the media to task — and you’ll see that he handled them the same way he did Juan. Chris Matthews knows this and is simply trying to find something, anything, to try to dampen the great moment that Newt had. So of course he turns to the ever reliable race card since he has nothing else.
But this once again shows that it is Newt who the democrats really fear. Otherwise, if they really feared Romney, they would be cheering Newt on. They don’t and so they aren’t.
Actually it was every MSNBC show last night they were trying (as is typical) to characterize Newts various comments as being racially charged and his Republican audience as being fellow racists.
It was interesting to see them play clips of Newt and then comment that he said something much different than what I and other Republicans were hearing.
Much boo-hoo-ing for Juan Williams last night too on MSNBC, yet when NPR fired him they thought it was funny.
Newt may have seemed condescending in his reply to Willams, but it was not because Juan is a negro. It is because he was being a race-baiting idiot.
And Brit's been brutal to Juan in the past. Doesn't even try to hide his disdain.
Gingrich knows Juan personally. I guess we are supposed to address so-called minority friends as “sir” or “madame” or by their last names. Mathews is an idiot racebaiter.
“Much boo-hoo-ing for Juan Williams last night too on MSNBC, yet when NPR fired him they thought it was funny.”
Exactly, when Juan went off the reservation and NPR fired him, the left was only too happy to crucify him. Now they have a use for him again to further their agenda.
Such a tone of disdain should always be used when addressing someone who is race-baiting.
You either have your head up your libtard ass ... or you don't
Off topic, but you mentioned syphillis which prompts me to ask......
I caught Shepard Smith yesterday on TV for the first time in a long time and I nearly lost my lunch! WTH is up with HIM? He looks absolutely emaciated!
I like to watch what the libs are up to first hand and form my own opinions, and yes, I would love to pull a transcript of them cheering Williams being fired and post it here.
They “eat, sleep and breathe” panic at the thought of Newt or Rick or Rick being the nominee.
(Even if he had such an experience, no rational or normal person would announce it to the world. There is obviously something very far out-of-whack with the man's brain. The comment not only suggested some form of perverted impulse. In the context of what the Left, in general, was saying, and now coupled with this new outburst, it suggests a preoccupation with some form of bizarre reverse racial sensitivity--not that anyone, anywhere, would ever imagine Chris a dispassionate commentator.)

You don’t mean IMASS is still on the air....
Matthews isn’t too smart, but he’s bright enough to try to manufacture a controversy. I remember a few years back when Chrissy berated Michelle Malkin. Malkin had contended that one of JF’nKerry’s injuries had resulted from a ricochet from a discharge of his own weapon. Matthews intentionally misstated her actual words of a self-inflicted injury by claiming that Malkin had accused JF’nKerry of “intentionally shooting himself.”
Unfortunately, the Fox Business Network carries him.
What a load of crap!
The argument: If you don’t think using Juan’s name is racist...that proves you’re racist.
Reality: If you don’t think Chrissy Matthews is a blind partisan, you’re a blind partisan.
No Chrissie. Your balls will remain in my lockbox.
