Dobson decried Callista Gingrich as 'eight-year mistress' at conservative confab
Politico ^ | 1-17-12 | Haberson

Posted on 01/17/2012 2:50:57 PM PST by VinL

At the now-controversial meeting of evangelicals at a Texas ranch, influential evangelical leader James Dobson made a strong pitch for Rick Santorum's wife — and noted that Callista Gingrich was her husband's "mistress for eight years," questioning whether that's what people want in a first lady, three sources told POLITICO.

The moment left several attendees at the confab at the Pressler ranch stunned, according to the sources.

It came on Saturday, before the group of about 150 conservatives voted on a candidate they wanted to back. On the third round of balloting, the vote went to Santorum, but Gingrich backers and other attendees have argued that the voting was done unfairly, and in a way that seemed to benefit the former Pennsylvania senator.

The meeting was initially described as an event to try to unite behind a single candidate to thwart Mitt Romney, but his representatives also ended up speaking there, and despite the third round of balloting — which took place after some Gingrich backers left, thinking the meeting had ended — broad consensus was never reached, according to multiple attendees.

"Dobson first talked about how great Santorum is," recalled one source, who had first-hand knowledge of Dobson's comment. "[He said,] 'I want to tell you that I've gotten to know Karen [Santorum] and she is just lovely. She set aside two professional careers to raise these seven children. She would make a fabulous first lady role model. And Newt Gingrich's wife, she was a mistress for eight years."

Another source confirmed the account, and said Dobson concluded the sentiment about Callista Gingrich with, "Who do you want as your first lady?"

"It was like a chill [set into] the room," said one source. Several people were offended by the comment, said another source, adding that it was noted among some participants that Callista Gingrich had only been married once.

Of course Clinton has repented and done so publicly many times.

Here is his famous "I Have Sinned" speech delivered at the annual White House prayer breakfast on Friday, September 11, 1998, to an audience of more than 100 ministers, priests and other religious leaders assembled in the East Room. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was also in attendance."

"I agree with those who have said that in my first statement after I testified I was not contrite enough. I don't think there is a fancy way to say that I have sinned.

It is important to me that everybody who has been hurt know that the sorrow I feel is genuine: first and most important, my family; also my friends, my staff, my Cabinet, Monica Lewinsky and her family, and the American people. I have asked all for their forgiveness.

But I believe that to be forgiven, more than sorrow is required - at least two more things. First, genuine repentance - a determination to change and to repair breaches of my own making. I have repented. Second, what my bible calls a ''broken spirit''; an understanding that I must have God's help to be the person that I want to be; a willingness to give the very forgiveness I seek; a renunciation of the pride and the anger which cloud judgment, lead people to excuse and compare and to blame and complain."

“Incredible. Let he who is without sin... “

.....skip getting an annulment or two before running for president.

I don’t think anyone is arguing the forgiveness of sins, as much as the inevitable (and required) earthly accountability for them that goes along with it. I’m assuming Newt took care of that, too.

In politics, however there is no requirement to withhold stones, daggers, and hand-grenades for someone elses sins.

I wish Newt had gotten an annulment for all the marriages to liberal causes he’s entered into the past. We don’t really know what liberal mistresses he presently is boinking either - but he’s been spotted with sneaking around with that floozy “Amnesty”.

Spare me the sympathy for Callista. If she couldn’t handle the criticism of screwing a politician, she should have convinced him not to run for President. I’m thinking this is the only way she’ll ever obtain the title “Lady” in any form that didn’t involve also sleeping with Prince Charles - which I wouldn’t totally rule out if Newt doesn’t get the nomination.

What kind of filthy talk are you bringing to FR?

Why don’t you infidelity supporters and porn lovers start your own site to dirty up the world?

Do any of you remember how lovingly Newt talked about his current wife during the Republican Revolution while he betrayed and humiliated her while lying to get conservative votes?

If you people have no standards of behavior then what good are you and what good can you ever do in this world?

"They were at the meeting to discuss the candidates."

Then why were they discussing the candidates' wives? I'm a Santorum fan, and there was an equally odious piece earlier today about Rick's wife and a relationship she was in prior to meeting Santorum. We can't expect our eventual nominee to be a person of virtue, discretion, and sound judgment if those selecting him are not.

FYI

a small part of info on Calista-

“devoted Catholic, she is a member of the Choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., a resident professional choir. In March of 2005, the Choir visited Rome, Italy to honor Pope John Paul II, and recorded a compact disc entitled Pope John Paul II: A Celebration of Life and Faith. In April of 2008, the Choir sang for the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, during his Apostolic Journey to the United States. In November of 2008, the Choir participated in the International Festival of Sacred Music and Art in Rome, Italy.

Callista plays the French horn with the City of Fairfax Band in Fairfax, Virginia, promoting musical growth and education among area residents and students. The Band performs frequently in Fairfax, Virginia, and the Washington, D.C. area. The City of Fairfax Band is a recipient of the John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Silver Scroll Award. The Sudler Silver Scroll is regarded to be North America’s most prestigious award for community concert bands.
...Callista graduated Cum Laude and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with a concentration in Public Communication from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. While at Luther College, she was a Pi Kappa Lambda Member and Regents Scholar.”

Among many other thing -

Has ANYONE bothered to look this up? Is the media silent, hoping no one finds out how accomplished she is? It hardly fits their agenda, after all -

Yes, I certainly was. Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.

Vin L thinks he can malign Regan by justifying Newt’s immoral behavior in contrast with Reagan?

(Bleep) that.

I am not disputing that personally Dobson is a sincere, great guy. I just think that someone who has a national audience must excercise discretion. Was he appointed to judge Calista? Did he really have to say that?

I certainly don’t want to be associated with any group that group that would formulate such seething, hateful comments.

For Dobson to say Calista is a fallen woman unworthy of First Lady-— begot my 1st comment-— let he who is w/o sin...

Right...so your position is that no christian leader can never even say anything against immoral behavior by a woman in a high-publicity position or perhaps any woman because Jesus told Jews in the first century not to throw rocks at them.

Got it.

The media elites were much more supportive of Terri Schiavo’s husband and his mistress even when he pulled the plug on his ailing wife to be with his new gal.

he pulls no punches, says what he thinks and is the opposite of political correctness.

Pretty far removed from Christan charity too - judgmental, sanctimonious -

Do you think, had Jesus been in the room, He would have approved of Dodaon doing this - or REproved?

Listen, if you don’t like Ronnie and Nancy, just say so.

Nice try, in begging the question.

Inarguably, by Dobson’s religious morality, Reagan and Nancy would have been immoral. By my standards, the Reagan’s private life was not mine to judge. The same applies to “fallen woman” Calista. If Dobson wants Santorum, let him just say it. Nothing wrong with Rick. No need to throw stones at Calista, to bloody Newt. Anyway, that’s my view based on my Christian faith.

I believe that the Bible teaches this doctrine, and it applies to anyone in any denomination that believes otherwise.

I'm not judging anyone, just saying.....

Please. Clinton has not truly repented. I can’t believe that you have offered that in sincerity. The man is a pig.

Baker, Swaggert, etc. are NOT Baptist, not that we don't have our own warts.

There's very little difference between a Pentecostal and a Baptist with the exception of the "tongues" thing. Shall I get into the warts now? Latham, Haggard, Camping........Tell you what, just send me a Love Offering and I'll send you a Prayer hankey and we can forget we ever had this conversation........Deal?

The Terri Shiavo incident haunts me to this day-—especially her husband’s taunt, “I kept my promise”. But, there’s a God in Heaven, and ultimately, this will be made right.

What good politically could come from Dobson’s comments? Politics, after all, is a practical endeavor.
