AUSTIN - Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Sunday that he is undaunted by his failure to win the backing of leading social conservatives and expressed confidence that he can still rally conservative voters in Saturday's South Carolina primary with his message of job creation and economic recovery.
....Perry was unapologetic about describing front-runner Mitt Romney's business activities as "vulture" capitalism, despite criticism from a number of leading Republicans, who warned that Democrats could exploit Perry's use of the term if Romney becomes the nominee.
Perry said the issue of job creation and Romney's record at Bain Capital is certain to come up in the general election campaign, telling Stephanopoulos that "it's better to be talking about it here in January in South Carolina than it is in September and October with the nominees."
Taliban incident
On another topic, Perry said that possible criminal charges against Marines shown urinating on dead Taliban fighters would be "over the top" although he said they should be reprimanded and appropriately punished for what he called a "dumb" mistake.
"When you're 18 or 19, you do dumb things. These kids made a mistake, there's not any doubt about it," Perry told Crowley.
But he said the Obama administration's possible pursuit of criminal charges shows "disdain" toward the U.S. military.

Perry has an ego as large as Texas.
His time has come to get behind another person.
This is turning out to be silly. His numbers are just not there. End of story.
Wow, so handsome! Now I understand why 99% of his supporters are women.
Why do you say that?
Here's a partial list. Let me know how you tell the men from the women.
Closing poll. Added missed votes and made corrections.
Final results of the Free Republic 1/9/2012 non-Romney Conservative Straw Poll as of post 543:
Newt 225 59.7%
Perry 77 20.4%
Santorum 75 19.9%

I guess I should’ve specified, 99% of Perry’s most vocal supporters are women.
But as you Perry fangirls have found out, beauty fades, dumb is forever. ;)
Perry’s my governor, and I love his energy and tax plans. BUT, because of the multiplicity of his gaffes, it’s just not going to happen for him, and all he is doing is insuring a Romney nomination. He needs to get out ASAP.
Yes. I know that’s the MSM talking points.
But it doesn’t change the facts or Gov. Perry’s record.....or the other candidates’ records (or lack thereof).
I see him as having not much of a chance to win. His personal polling data would have to show him this. I think he is not thinking of the bigger picture (too stubborn) which is to stop liberal Romney. He blew it long ago when he governed as a liberal republican. He would gain more respect by supporting one of the others. Apparently, he wants to go down in flames with some ridicule. What else is there to say.
I guess that is why I am libertarian in nature and generally Republican when it comes time to vote.
AU H2o.
All you other folks can exercise your principles to your heart's content.
You see, that would be an attack on one of the candidates. That is off limits here. In fact, your ego must be pretty big itself, since you think you can speak for all the voters.
I would be more worried about Ron Paul helping Romney than Perry. You’re from TX, what’s up with that?
You see Perry's mom taught him about honoring his country and respecting women. Apparently, something your mom failed to do.
Rick Perry is not a dumb man, but he sometimes plays one on T.V. I have tried not to be negative since the last time I talked but your continual drival about the other candidates drives this thing. I have better chance to be the nominee than Rick Perry. And I am from Texas. Right now with the way he has run his campaign he could not even win his own state. WE are embarrased. Rick please come home.
Hey, I wish Paul, Perry, and Santorum would all get out. But Paul is out there in his own separate reality, so I tend to forget about him.
Good article. I’m happy to support the real conservative in this race, Rick Perry.
Just another anti-Perry troll with nothing better to do than type until their mommy tells them to go to bed...put it on ignore !
