Jackie Green became the UK's youngest transsexual after an op in Thailand on her 16th birthday.
The 18-year-old — who was born Jack but lived as a girl since age ten — was asked to enter by modelling scouts who had no idea of her history.
The aspiring model, from Leeds, hopes to use the opportunity to speak out about bullying and transgender issues.
She said: "I went to the Britain's Next Top Model show in London and was really surprised when scouts came up to me. Miss England is a prestigious competition. I'd love to win. I've as good a chance as anyone."
At 12 mum Susie, 43, took her to a US clinic for hormone treatment to stop her male puberty. The divorced IT manager then re-mortgaged her house to fund Jackie's £28,000 sex change op.
Bullying led her to attempt suicide five times. She said: "I can never thank my mum enough, she saved my life."
She is in the Miss Fresh Photographic round of the contest where public votes decide who makes the semi-finals.

Now it's just ugly women angry about being ugly.
I predict the dude will not win, but will be within one or two rounds of the final, because the judges don’t want to appear politically incorrect.
Mental disorder indeed - one that only a completely inhumane society would nurture rather than attempt to cure.
All involved will be judged for permitting this to happen.
Cute as a little tike but ugly in that get up he’s parading around in today. Try as he may, he’ll never be a Miss. Notice the article says the scouts came to him which means it’s nothing but publicity.
But as an aside, men have to do more to stop boys from bullying each other. It's bad enough the school system is biased against anything having to do with "maleness", without boys turning on each other for any stupid reason.
Other groups have united against systems that are biased against them, but it seems that boys and males in general are willing to help "the system", as long as it's against other males. Until this changes, you will only read more stories like this of boys self destructing in one way or another.
Yes and I worked for one, ugly inside and out. I understand is getting divorced again from what I have heard. Living as a homeless person or with her and her stupid fat kid were my choices, the streets sound better.
If we were the only two left on earth, mankind would perish.
In this case, it doesn't sound like the boy is the only one with mental disorders. It sounds like there is a mother involved who was so distraught with having a boy instead of a girl that she gave him the message his whole life that he should be a girl. A parent who is so intent on mutilating her own child in this fashion is not a fit parent.
That is a good example.
To mutilate your child’s body rather than treat his MENTAL DISORDER/ILLNESS is horrific. If the kid had thought he was a unicorn, would medicine go that far to justify his pyschosis? Implant a horn on forehead, make hooves?
Suppose he had wanted to be a black woman? Would he have been pumped full of chemicals? Doctors made Michael Jackson a white woman, so I suppose making someone black would be no problem?
Any mother who would validate their child’s mental illness this way is probably where the kid got the mental defect from in the first place.
And the doctors who make money from these sick people are worse!

99% of England is unaware its on TV.
These days it will be on a minor satellite channel.
The UK dosent take them as seriously as you do. And that goes for all pageants.
In fact, most British people truly detest the American style pageant, esp where children are concerned. We find the child ones frankly disgusting, many have called even for a ban on them.
Most English or British/Irish women dont watch them, let alone have any interest in appearing in them.
