Phil Sloan and Steve Barri still had a foothold at Screen Gems, and Jan & Dean took full advantage of it. This song is a masterpiece, and in late 1965 it was the last hit for Jan & Dean. It captures that operatic sense an adolescent male has when he finds someone very special, and his whole world opens up. It just nails the mood.

Hello Red,
No cataloging for me this year. My peppers and chilli powder was such a hit that folks all over the world are sending me seeds. I of course harvested seeds from my own peppers - about 7 varieties of Jalapenos, Habenaros, Savina Chillies and cherry peppers, but next year I have a treasure trove of new ones: Yellow Habaneros to go with my orange ones, Naga King Morich, Rocoto Canario and Chocolate Scotch Bonnets from Denmark, Czech Blacks and Aji Lemons and even some Ghost seeds (Trinidad Scorpion). I do hope I get to plant a garden this year - it’ll be smokin’!

I best check that out.
We just missed one.
Got about 1/4 inch of snow that the winds took care off.
Probably blown to Ohio.

In 1965, the Turtles had just scored a hit with a Bob Dylan tune, and they picked up a Phil Sloan tune and got their second hit.
The Turtles: Let Me Be
P. F. Sloan recorded it himself a year later, and it sounds totally different. Here its a personal song, the lament of an outsider rather than a protest. Sloans performance turns it into a masterpiece.
