Appearing as a guest on Wednesday's The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, ABC's George Stephanopoulos responded to host Stephen Colbert's question of why he - as debate co-moderator last Saturday - asked GOP presidential candidate about whether states have the constitutional power to ban contraceptives, as he argued that the question revolved around the "right to privacy."
He then suggested that a bet with co-moderator Diane Sawyer motivated him to be so persistent in asking Romney followup questions on the subject. After Colbert asked what it felt like when Romney called it a "silly thing" for Stephanopoulos to ask such a hypothetical question, the ABC anchor responded:
At that moment, I am thinking, "I really want to win this bet."

the GOP are so stupid
We have open primaries letting Dems elect our candidate.
We start the primary process in the north east small state with an open process.
We have our debates done by the MSM which are out to get republicans and try and make the GOP look stupid.
We have non republicans like Paul running on our ticket when they have a libertarian ticket.
We never stand up to the MSM and call them out at every chance .
We never go after the left like they go after us.
WHy the hell am I using “we” the GOP are dead to me now and if Romney or nutbag gets the nomination or close then it goes to show the GOP does not want a conservative person but a candidate more in tune with the left.

Gang, I can't stand this little biased twerp as much as the next conservative, but this is a comedy show. If you read the whole dialogue, it is obviously scripted to deliver the final punch line by the star, Colbert. You're giving Steffie way too much credit. To say it was just a bet takes some of the idiocy out of his pursuit of the question, takes out the desperation he exuded as a biased talking point pusher.

I would have responded to Stephie:
“I recognize your contempt for those who value life and your desire to marginalize those opposing the taking of human life in the womb, George. But, your attempt to introduce contraception as a Presidential policy issue is as transparent as it is silly.”
