Jim DeMint: Romney will win South Carolina
The Washington Examiner's Beltway Confidential ^ | January 10, 2012 | Charlie Spiering

Posted on 01/10/2012 11:07:04 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

On Mark Levin's radio show this evening, conservative Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina predicted that Republican frontrunner Romney would win the state in the upcoming Presidential primary.

"I think Romney's going to win here," said DeMint, "I think that some of the other that might have had an advantage here have really crossed ways with some Republicans as they've criticized free enterprise concepts." DeMint said, clearly referencing Jon Huntsman, Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich's recent attacks on Romney's record at Bain capital.

Demint added that he liked Romney's acceptance speech tonight, noting that, "He’s hitting a lot of the hot buttons for me about balancing the budget, and frankly I’m a little concerned about the few Republicans who have criticized some of what I consider free market principles here,” DeMint said.

DeMint said he was not going to endorse a candidate yet, because he wanted to focus on the Senate.

"I want to help deliver a conservative Senate, otherwise it doesn’t matter who is in the White House.” he said.

“How on earth does DeMint think he’s going to have a senate to keep control if Romney is the nominee? LOL, they can’t all be that stupid can they?”

FRiend, yes they are that stupid. The RNC wants a milquetoast Presidential candidate who will not scare the soccer moms and upset the balance down ticket. As if McConnell and Boehner have the stones to push through a repeal of Obamacare. They don’t have one set between them. The whole thing is a farce.

Looks like DeMint didn’t say he wanted Romney to win, he just said he thought he would win and why.

Just because a person says something others would rather not hear doesn’t make them a bad guy.

Thanks for that, but that whole back-and-forth was my own fault for even getting involved in one of these “candidate” threads. I’ve been around FR long enough to know better, but sometimes I just do stupid things.

That is one of the best explanations of the reason why the primary process never changes.

Pissant did not support Romney.

He just didn’t like Palin.

I thought he supported Bachmann.

I live in SC and alot of people down here have started believing Romney is the only person that can beat Obama.
We are constantly bombarded with this nonsense on Fox News and the other liberal stations. Also Romney’s Superpac has been running the negative ads against Newt Gingrich for the last two weeks, non-stop. Newt has just started fighting back. But the simple truth is even in SC many people have been brainwashed into believing only Willard can beat Obama. I never thought I would live to see the day that a liberal Yankee politician is favored to win our primary. Newt can still do it, but he needs some help and needs it fast. Santorum and Perry need to get out for the good of the party and Sarah Palin needs to give a major speech endorsing Newt. If that would happen he would win. No doubt in my mind.

I find it a bit disconcerting that we're being ‘told’ Romney will be winning, ahead of his wins. Funny, because everyone I know regards Romney as Obama lite.

"What do real conservatives do???"

Oh, I dunno, maybe next time run 8 conservatives instead of 4? Because splitting the conservative vote ad infinitum, that's the path to power, obviously... < / s >

"The various Tea Party groups ought to all get together, agree on an acceptable list of candidates, take their own private poll, and agree to uniformly endorse one candidate, whichever one wins their poll. Endorsing is the difference between having a massive influence and rendering yourself irrelevant. How they missed this opportunity is baffling."

And their candidate -- had Palin declined -- could have been the subject name of this very article. Would have made it interesting.

"At this point in time, a ham sandwich could beat Obama."

A ham sandwich is going to beat Obama. That's entirely the point.

Jim DeMint is a member of the government class that is crushing our future. He has no interest in truly restoring our Republic -- he is just another member of the contemptible political class.

It's funny how you can go from being a hero to a persona non grata in a millisecond with some freepers. DeMint is one of my heros of people currently in politics, and he is right on the money in calling out Gingrich, Perry, Huntsman.

At least we have Santorum and Paul acting like Republicans on this issue. I would not be surprised if Gingrich, Perry, Huntsman were soundly rejected, and the field is narrowed to Romney, Santorum and Paul after Florida...

Totally agree. I have the utmost respect for DeMint, and he was right in his prediction. As long as the conservative vote is split, Romney will win in every state.

It was shocking that the conservative vote in NH only totaled 22%. If we can only garner 22% of the vote, then we are never going to take over the republican party.

I am glad DeMint is focused on winning the Senate.

It is a sad comment on our times, but Romney ‘looks’ presidential. DeMint knows that ‘look’ will help him win the Senate.

DeMint is the most authentic conservative office holder on the national scene. How can you berate a guy for stating the obvious in a splintered conservative field?

I’m not a Carolinian. I’ve just always liked and respected the guy. Wish he was running for president.

The TEA Party chose to give Republicans a chance to caucus with them. 2010 was a great example of the TEA Party’s influence. They have chosen to ignore us this go around.

That's not really the case. My early favorites, and Tea party favorites (Bachman, Perry, Cain) have faded mainly due to self inflicted wounds.

It's not really that some evil "they" have chosen to ignore us. It is as simple as our candidates not being ready for the challenge. I am disappointed, like you are, but we still have to beat Obama with whatever we have left.

“He endorsed Gov. Romney last time.”

DeFraud.

Just like Haley.

We have been sold a bill of bads, conservatives.

If Romney is nominated...we lose either way. He likey won’t beat Obama (there is a reason the Dems and Media want him in). If he wins, Conservatism and Republican Brand destroyed.

*If Romney is nominated, we need to start another Party. A Party for Conservatives: We need TeaParty,Jim Robinson, Palin, Cain...it can be done.

If it's Milt, I agree 100% and will raise my promised $2 million dollars for the candidate. If it's Newt or one of the Ricks, will back them.

BTW, as an amusing aside, did you see Jon Huntsman's wife and daughters on Fox News last night? ROWR! I see one thing he's good at, and it ain't speaking Mandarin!

This is why I like DeMint. And Allen West of Florida. Both know that they can be more affective in Congress and Senate. That's where we need to make the biggest changes.

I am so sick of these sell-outs.

I have one foot out of the Republican party right now. If Romney wins the nomination, it will be both feet.

Over time, Statists in both parties have morphed our Republic into a Socialist hell.

You can't say that until the death squads appear, and our enemies begin to unfold the murderous flower of their ultimate intentions.

But it's turning into that.
