Animal rights activists are behind the burning of cattle trucks at the Harris Ranch truck lot early Sunday, according to a statement from the purported arsonists.
The statement, released Monday, describes how the fire, which heavily damaged 14 tractors and several trailers, was set and says the attack was aimed at "the horrors of factory farming."
Spokeswoman Nicoal R. Sheen of the Animal Liberation Press Office, which released the statement, said the office doesn't take part in illegal actions but distributes communiqués from those who do.
Fresno County sheriff's spokesman Chris Curtice said detectives are looking into the claim. He would not comment further except to say "that was one of the directions they were looking into anyway."
The fire started just before 4 a.m. in the truck storage area at Highway 145 and Interstate 5. Several tractor-trailer rigs were engulfed in flames when deputies and Cal Fire personnel arrived. It took about 45 minutes to put out the blaze.
The cost of the damage has not been released.
Harris Farms is one of the nation's largest family-owned agribusinesses. It is California's largest cattle feeder, beef processor and beef marketer.

Kill the bastards.
It would be nice to have a latter-day Tom Horn to go after them.
Too true LOL~~
Visualize what would happen if we had people roaming around burning down abortion clinics, and somebody set herself up as "spokeswoman" using a similar statement. How long would she remain free? Milliseconds?
you can rest assured that the equipment was properly insured. That means that the company will have nice new trucks to haul their meat to market...brilliant strategy from the typical dim-witted left. Pathetic
Act of Terrorism. Next event, if the they are caught in the act, approval to fire on them and engage. Enough said.
Sounds a lot like conspiracy and contributing to me
So these smug little punks are calling it "revolutionary environmentalism" now, huh?
Fine. Does that mean we can shoot them on sight now?
Thanks for the ping, Jaz!
I am so stealin' your comments! Lol!
After another vibrating nightmare in a box, they wind up at Safeway or some such, where they get wrestled around into a bag in the back of somebody's car left in a parking lot. No water, and then into a refrigerator to die yet MORE slowly, either to be eaten or rot.
The lucky ones get a final death when you dose them with suffocating oil and crush them between your teeth, one cell at a time.
Lest you forget, most plant nursery sterile micropropagation is done with slips of plant material smaller than you would put on a fork. Every one of those bits is capable of being nurtured into a mature plant, finally capable of expressing its life's purpose to flower and to seed, but no!!!!
Instead they wind up swirling down the porcelain bus to end up in a chemical treatment plant, the final legacy of a life of abuse.
if somebody forgets they're there. They just rot, and end up buried so far in a dump that they won't even become useful dirt. The best fate they could get at that point is to be eaten by worms.
Have you no sensitivity? Have you no compassion? At least Christians say a prayer over them... while we eat our steak.
At least I have the decency to kill my food before I eat it.
Thanks for that, Carry_Okie!
In March, I'll be doing some wildlife field work with an off-the-charts vegan militant. Seriously, I think he has some form of obsessive/compulsive disorder. We once went to a Del Taco and he ordered some sort burrito that he thought would be vegan. After getting it, he opened up the torilla flaps and spent about five minutes studiously examining every rice grain in the burrito -- just in case one of those rice grains happened to be a grain of dastardly cheese! I just rolled my eyes and scarfed down my beef tacos.
I can't wait to bring up the "torture" of plants to him the next time we get food. Should be a lot of fun!
All the best!
Yeah, I hear you, Fly.
At the very least they should be shot when caught carrying out criminal acts in the name of "revolutionary environmentalism."
The terrorists have no respect for private property or the people who have worked their butts off to not only get ahead in life but to supply food and raw materials for millions who don't have the know how or the will to do it for themselves.
These "revolutionary environmentalists" are nothing more than destructive post turtles.
