Jerry Sandusky's book, 'Touched,' helped police investigation into alleged sex crimes

The investigation of Jerry Sandusky took three years.
And it took Sandusky himself through the pages of his autobiography, Touched to help police find Victims 3, 4, 5 and 7.
At the end of 2009, police had spent almost a year trying to corroborate claims by a single boy a 17-year-old Clinton County teen later known as Victim 1 who had alleged years of sexual abuse by Penn States legendary defensive coach. Only one state police investigator had been tasked to handle the case.
Finally, they discovered a campus police report from 1998, in which a boy had said he was forced to take a naked shower with Sandusky in the Penn State locker room and was inappropriately touched. With that, investigators learned the key had been right in front of them.

true. It just seems with the other cases (so far) he was careful to go in there when no one else was there and assaulted the kids after a long grooming process.
Schultz was the Sr. Vice President of Business & Finance. The head of the University Police reported to him on an organizational chart;...Exactly. Report the crime to someone you are responsible to (Paterno, et. al) such as Schultz, bypass the one who was accountable and responsible (Police Chief) and the one who had the authority for a response said “ I don’t know anything about it. “ The coverup.
These perverts are so blatantly obvious. Michael Jackson built a private kiddy playground right next to his mansion. I mean come on.
Thanks for the title (Fun With Pedos). I just put it on my Wish List.
Yep. They think they are so smart and that no one would ever make the connection.
Gricar knew he couldn't win a case against Jerry Sandusky with a Happy Valley jury. Sandusky was the defensive coordinator of the Penn State football team and had been for 22 years; the school was known as Linebacker U because of Jerry Sandusky. He'd been a coach at Penn State for 31 years, and he's played at Penn State for three. He was supposed to be the head coach after Paterno. He was also known as the founder of The Second Mile, a charity for at-risk kids, and everybody who was anybody was either on the real or honorary board of trustees (including every famous name in the sports world) and made donations to is.
Standing on the other side, accusing him, was an eleven year-old boy who was being 'helped' by Sandusky. The kid had returned home from one of his first outings with Sandusky. His mother noticed that he had wet hair. The kid said that after a game of "Polish bowling" (rolling tape - perhaps athletic tape - into cups) Sandusky said they had to take showers. When naked, Sandusky said "I'm going to squeeze the guts out of you!" and bear-hugged the kid, then held him up and shampooed his hair.
The mom called the PSU police. The University Park police and child welfare also get involved. They eavesdrop on two calls the mother makes to Sandusky. He admits he's showered with boys and apologizes. He says he doesn't know if his 'private parts' touched Victim 6 but he says "I don't think so." He asks for forgiveness. But he won't promise the mom that he'll never shower with another kid.
Later, he promises child welfare that he'll stop.
Gricar, the Centre County District Attorney, gets the case. Investigators find another boy, "BK" who had a similar experience.
There's no touching of genitals like with the other victims. This is early in the grooming. No sex.
Gricar decides not to press any charges.
Look at the circling of the wagons around Joe Paterno after we KNOW that he didn't report child rape. Can you imagine the circling of the wagons around Sanduksy, the defensive coordinator, a man who was helping a boy as part of his The Second Mile charity and simply showered with the kid?
Where would Gricar have found a jury to convict Sandusky? The only charge I've found in PA law would have required Gricar to prove that Sandusky did it for sexual stimulation.
No wonder Gricar elected not to bring a he-said/he-said charge against mighty Penn State and Jerry Sandusky.
Seven years later, Gricar disppeared. His nephew was interviewed when the renewed interest showed as a result of the Penn State indictments. The nephew said that Gricar always had a sour taste in his mouth for Penn State football because he felt that Penn State football stonewalled the investigation of Sandusky in 1998.
So, that's why I think Gricar chose not to prosecute. Anybody else thing Gricar had a winnable case. Against Sandusky in 1998. A 31-year Penn State coach. In Happy Valley? You've seen what these people are like when Penn State football is obliquely on trial.
As far as I’ve been able to determine from news reports, this Victim #6 is the one who helped the authorities determine the names of several other young boys. As his mom says, they all thought that they were the “only one” that Sandusky abused. It was so shameful that, although the boys knew each other, none of them spoke about it, at the time that it happened. It was only when the AG’s office started investigating the 2008 claim that the rest of these were unearthed. They had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the AG’s office, that’s how ashamed they were. They needed subpoenas to get several of these now young men to open up about their experiences. That’s one thing I wondered about it, and now it has been answered.
I don’t believe Rodney Erickson (the new president of Penn St) hadn’t read anything in the newspaper about this before the grand jury presentment. It was in many local papers back in March, and there were subpoenas about emails and such. As executive vice president and provost at the time, he had to have been in the loop on all of this. I’m not buying his denial.
Get rid of them all! There was a huge cover-up to protect the institution.
I don’t know whether the story the attorney gave is just the shortened version of what happened the day the kid says he was assaulted. There could be many more details that weren’t released to the public, and I suspect the attorney didn’t lay all of his cards on the table. It’s predictable that Sandusky’s attorney would say that this one case was different...therefore this victim is out for money. While that’s entirely possible, it’s also possible that what we’ve heard about this new allegation is only a piece of what’s actually been told in confidentiality to the attorney. The AG’s office is looking into it, and won’t comment at this time.
Keep in mind that Amendola has outright said that the other kids were all colluding together just for the money, when the truth is that these kids told nobody until they were called (by subpoenas) to the AG’s office. They were ashamed of what happened to them...of what Sandusky did TO them, and they would have rather kept silent about the whole affair until they were called to testify about it. When they began to realize that Sandusky had done this to others, they began to realize someone might believe them about the horrors they suffered.
I completely agree with your reasoning here. If Gricar had pursued the case, there is no way Jerry Sandusky would have been convicted at that time in Happy Valley. He could have been 100% guilty and he would have walked. Right, wrong, or indifferent, JS would have been a free man. After that, what would be the chance that others would come forward? Slim to none. Even now the creep may serve little time if any, but I sincerely hope that’s not the case this time.
The only thing that even opened the window here this time is that an unflappable mom heard her son complain about “sex weirdos”. So she followed up on what was going on. It turns out for her that a nightmare had been going on for her son, and everyone around him was letting it happen based on the idea that Jerry Sandusky was a fine, upstanding citizen.
It reminds me of the cop that broke the Jaycee Dugard nightmare. Her radar went off when she encountered the kidnapper/rapist 19 years after the fact...and the rest is history. Who would have ever conceived that Jaycee had to go through ALL that she went through before she would be rescued all those years later? It was the woman cop who said her intuition kicked in and that she knew something wasn’t right and she didn’t ignore it. She followed up. This is like that in a way. Someone finally followed up!!!
That would be fine with me.
Amendola is the one who colluded, to keep a NAMBLA swap going by means of Sandusky’s organization.
I’m interested if you can tell me more about the collusion.
Reason one. And that's why male victims don't come forward. Probably 80% of the men I work among say they wouldn't come forward years after the fact if there were others to testify. Other men are always going to look at you as if something were wrong with *you* for being raped and participating in the homosexual acts.
Reason two. And this is perverse. Penn State football. These kids were around the program. They were raised to love it. They were drawn to it. According to Ben Andreozzi, the attorney for one of the VICTIMS:
I think its fair to say the victims could be thinking to themselves right now that as a result of (my) coming forward, look whats happened to this football program.
Yes. Does that sicken you?
It does make me sick. Football has become a god to these people.
While I’ll admit I love watching sports (though I can’t perform them), there needs to be a limit on their value. It is only entertainment. We need to clean up Hollywood, too. This is just the sort of stuff they approve of and promote.
From the little I know about George Jessel, this didn't sound like his M.O. to me, so I checked it out. In her autobiography Shirley Temple discusses this event during a part of the book that recounts events in the fall of 1948. At this time she was 20 years old.
She mentions Jessel having seen the rushes from a movie called Mr. Belvedere. Shirley Temple appeared in a movie called Mr. Belvedere Goes to College that came out in 1949.
Shirley Temple had been married at the age of 17. Although Jessel was 30 years older, Temple was not an innocent little child when this alleged event happened. He may be guilty of sexual harassment but it is wrong IMHO to accuse him of pedophilia.
You got it. Hollyweird has always been the place for perverts of all stripes. Going back to the Silent Movies and Fatty Arbuckle. And in the 1930's we had all the Homos getting 'married' to some star, starlett, followed by a quickie Mex divorce ('See-he's straight'). In the later 30's came the likes of Errol Flynn who 'liked them young' (really young). That's where the phrase, "In Like Flynn", came from.
Then in the 1940's and 1950's came the Commies. There were a lot more than the 'Hollywood Ten'. Hell, Edward G Robinson was a Communist Party member. Which pretty much ruined all his movies for me now.
And who can look at a Doris Day-Rock Hudson 'love movie' now without gagging like a maggot or laughing your rear off. Ronald Reagan, John Wayne, and Bob Hope were the few non pervert, 'real Americans, in the stinking place.
But what really fries my butt about the typical Hollyweird Hypocrisy is that WC Fields got slammed by that scum just because 'Bill' like to have a few cocktails. Meanwhile 'they' were raping some young boy or girl, or shooting up heroin!
And those were the days when Hollywood contracts had morals clauses.
Anything goes-—today.
Hollywood prides itself on its ability to change (read degrade) the culture.
The movie theatre has replaced the church as a morals arbiter.
