Activists board Japanese whaling ship

The Sea Shepherd anti-whaling group said three Australian activists were being held as "prisoners" by the Japanese harpoon fleet Sunday after sneaking aboard one of their vessels overnight to protest.

Sea Shepherd said they had helped the three men from the Forest Rescue Australia environmental group to board the Shonan Maru No.2 16 miles (26 kilometres) off Australia's west coast.

"The boats approached the Shonan Maru under the cover of darkness and the three negotiated their way past the razor wire and spikes and over the rails to successfully board the Japanese whaling vessel," Sea Shepherd said of the Forest Rescue trio.

They were now "being held as prisoners on board the Japanese vessel the Shonan Maru No. 2" which had been tailing the Sea Shepherd ship the Steve Irwin and contained "armed Japanese military personnel," Sea Shepherd claimed.

In statement Forest Rescue said it wanted to prevent the Shonan Maru from following the Steve Irwin back to the Southern Ocean.

The Steve Irwin had to return to Australia last week because another Sea Shepherd ship, the Brigitte Bardot, was damaged in high seas and had to be escorted home for repairs, setting back the group's annual hunt of the whalers.

Forest Rescue said it was "making a stand to assist Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in their campaign to end illegal whale poaching in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary."

"We are taking this action to remind the Australian government of their obligation to enforce existing laws pertaining to the prohibition of whaling ships in our waters," the group added.

"Forest Rescue are insulted and disappointed in our government for allowing the transit of whale poaching vessels in Australian waters."

The group has demanded that the Japanese return the three men -- Simon Peterffy, 44, Geoffrey Tuxworth, 47 and Glen Pendlebury,

They literally risk their lives for what they believe in. You have to admire them for that.

First, these hippies don’t work for a living and mooch off anyone and everyone. Second, they all want to be “rent-a-heros” so the rest of the sensitive whale lovers will make them idols for their cause. It’s a hell of a competitive event among them.

They are so stupid as to believe that ruining a legitimate business venture (whaling)is the way to go rather than attempt a legal and political solution to the act. Noooooooooo...they believe the can break into private property and criminally protest there. Laws? We don’t need any steeeeeenking laws! That’s their motto.

I believe that the laws of the sea prevail and for the ship’s captain to take whatever the law of the sea states as action for their crimes.

“Prepare to repel boarders! Mr. Montgomery, give them a whiff of grape, if you please.”
“Aye, Cap’n”.
BOOM
“They don’t be likin’ the grape cap’n!”
“Depress the cannon, and put one through their hull.”
“Aye, Cap’n”.
BOOM
“That one broke their back!”
“Very good. Have the men scrub the granola off the deck and let’s get some more sail up.”

The 9/11 terrorists gave up their lives for what they believed in. Do you admire THEM as well?

These guys are engaging in sabotage. They should be shot, or at least made to walk the plank.

"forcing your way onto a vessel is piracy... hell, even the coast guard or sheriff has to ask your permission to board your vessel....(if you did not ask for and receive permission to board, you have forced your way aboard)"

In Jacksonville Florida the JSO likes to perform "shakedowns" on people living aboard boats in marinas and visiting cruisers at anchor. First, they come hammering on your boat early in the morning, and you are greeted by a half dozen officers armed for bear, who ask permission to board, and if you ask to see a search warrant, will tell you they are there to inspect your marine toilet to be sure it does not flush overboard. If you allow them aboard, they search your boat from stem to stern for contraband. If you deny them permission to board and demand a search warrant, you are immediately arrested. The charge: resisting arrest. They did it to me, I've seen them with my own eyes do it to others. In court the judge threw my charges out because he was so familiar with the tactic, his own words were "you were guilty of saying 'no' to the JSO".

In addition, many times when they hammer on a person's boat and there is no response, they go aboard and try the hatches and storage compartments, and if any are unlocked, they go through the contents for a quick look. This is blatantly illegal. At one marina a resident caught this on his cellphone, he was arrested and his cellphone mysteriously ended up in the deep six.

A friend of mine was taking his rather huge motor vessel to an inexpensive marina in Jacksonville that allowed people to work on their boats...I knew the area and that it was one of the favorite places for the JSO to get their kicks rousting boat people, but my friend was a legal scholar, and when he heard my horror story, he kept saying "but they can't do that." I told him "that's not the point, they will do that."

"But they can't."

"But they will."

Six JSO asked for permission to board. He refused permission. They arrested him, dragged him to a sheriffs car in cuffs, searched his boat in his absence sans warrant, and when he bonded out, he was still saying "but they can't do that."

"But they did."

"But they can't."

"But they did!"

“These inept bunch of hippies have done more to save whales than anything the gubmimt is doing”

If you believe that liberal nonsense then you don’t know what the various governments worldwide actually have done and you insult their hard work.

Let me be blunt. This is my honest opinion.

Last year Whale Wars Season 4 sucked big time. I'm guessing Animal Planet a subsidiary of Discovery probably told Captain Lardass to do something to get ratings.

Captain Coco Puffs cares about Captain Coco Puffs and he isn't fat without money. So he'd probably do anything to get more cash from Discovery. He just has a bunch of retards stupid enough to obey his orders...

One more bit of info. I'm guessing most of the folks reading this never have seen Whale Wars but the Shonan Maru is a security ship or a spotter vessel to track down Watson and the hippies.

Harpoon ships are all Yushin Maru 1,2 and 3.

Butcher vessel from hell that should be sunk (just my opinion not support for hippies) is called the Nisshan Maru.

I'm an anti whaling FReeper but I'm also anti hippie / Paul Watson and the retards that follow him.

... the Shonan Maru is a security ship or a spotter vessel to track down Watson and the hippies.

That point needs to be repeated. You don't stop whaling by boarding a security ship. But you do get press coverage. Watson has demonstrated many, many times that getting good footage for the TV show is his real goal.

More information:

Australian government tries to locate Japanese ship and detained men

The article is full of screaming Greenies from the Australian Parliment, but it also says that the Shonan Maru No. 2 doesn't seem interested in returning the men to Australia or heading back to Japan. They are still following the Steve Irwin with their prisoners onboard. Gonna be a long couple of months locked up on a Japanese whaler. I wonder what they're feeding them? I'd be happy to recommend a diet.
