Gingrich: Romney should drop out if he doesn't win New Hampshire primary
By Daniel Strauss - 01/06/12 07:43 AM ET
Newt Gingrich said if Mitt Romney doesn't win the New Hampshire primary, he should drop out of the race.
"Look, this is one of his best states other than Utah and Massachusetts. If he doesn't win here, he couldn't stay in the race," the former speaker said Friday morning on ABC's "Good Morning America."
Polls show Romney leading in New Hampshire by a wide margin and he is expected to win the state. Gingrich, meanwhile, is struggling to regain his campaign's momentum and has expressed frustration with the negative attack ads against him in Iowa, which were paid for by a pro-Romney super PAC.
He has upped his attacks on the former Massachusetts governor in recent days.

I agree 100%. In fact, it is fine for Romney to drop out now and let Perry surge in South Carolina.
Gingrich though is continuing to make a bigger fool of himself by simply endlessly talking about Romney and nothing else. He is obsessed. Stick a fork in him. There is no votes he will gain by this type of stupidity.

LOL! I hate Romney as much as anyone. But that statement is laughable.

This is not a good strategy because what if Romney plays his buff and say “sure Newt, If I lose NH I will drop out, but if you lose NH than you drop out.” This could get sticky. I love Newt going after Romney but he needs to be smart about it.

Both polling numbers and reasoned thought make a Romney win in NH pretty likely. A big chunk of the voters in NH likely to participate in the primary are ex- Bay Staters who once elected him governor.
Only partly tongue-in-cheek.

I love Santorum is 3rd in SC right now. Newt is 4th and Perry is just beginning so once he gets down there he will be noticed. The three of them have to make sure that #1 in SC, Romney does not make it. It is scary that Romney is number one (right now) in SC.

it doesn’t surprise me at all, as soon as Santorum surged unexpectedly, I knew South Carolina was in trouble.
Santorum can NOT beat Romney, in fact he along with Bachmann were the only two that couldn’t. I always figured they would both be out after Iowa. I never expected in a million years for 1% Santorum to surge and hand Romney the nomination.

Proof that Newt is delusional. What’s he smoking? Mitt isn’t remotely thinking of quitting.

Gingrich has lost any credibility he acquired during the many debates.
Nothing shows weakness more than a publicly exposed bruised ego!
If Newt can't understand why his poll numbers keep fading, then he is far from as smart as I once thought.

Gingrich is having elevator problems. Someone should tell him to button up. Wondering what he is going to do when he figures out conservatives prefer Santorum to him. The fireworks may shoot.

Newt is just like a veteran slugger returning to the game after retirement.
He can hit a few home runs but the strikeouts are more numerous.
Temper tantrums follow.
Newt will be destroyed by his own loose tongue.

I never expected in a million years for 1% Santorum to surge and hand Romney the nomination.
Santorum just happened to be at the right place in the polls at the right time.
Just weeks earlier, Cain was going to sweep the whole Nation. Just weeks later, Gingrich was going to sweep the whole Nation.
Santorum had not yet been the object of the MSM/Dem/Elite GOP onslaught. As that happens, his numbers will decline.
From other posts, some say Santorum does not have an organization and is not on the ballots in several states. If that is true, then he is doing more damage to conservatives than good. A couple of months ago, I posted that we would see hucka-hangers-on who would keep the conservatives from nominating the GOP candidate. Cain did that for a while, then Gingrich, now ... Santorum?
Alternatively, Romney still can't seem to rise out of the 20s. That does not bode well for him.
If this back-and-forth continues, SuperTuesday in early March might be very interesting.

The sheeple did. That's where the sudden surge came from in Iowa for Santorum.

Attention Mister Gingrich.
You are SOOOOooo three days ago.
Time to spend so quality time on your global warmist couch, and leave the remaining primaries to non-losers.

This is a very smart move by a very smart man.
Gingrich has been raising Romney’s expectations, setting him up for disappointment. Romney can’t win in NH, he can only lose, really.
If the gap closes at all, Romney looks weakened, and Newt will pounce on him further.

Newt is coming across as desperate with this one.
Rick Perry was probably the only guy with a reasonable chance of knocking off Romney, but much of the base chose to attack him, and then he turned in those horrendous debate performances.
Hard to see anybody in the current field beating Mittens now. I'm to the point where I'm hoping for a last minute surprise entry or a brokered convention.
Can't say I am too optimistic about either of those things though.

Newt knows what he is doing. If there is a chance against Mr. Romney it is Newt. That is why they are spending so much money trying to knock Newt out. They are not worried about Rick S., but I am. He can get Romney nominated.

ROTFLMY Romney OFF!
Hilarious and a great statement by Newt to razz and rattle Romney!
How about this for pressure on the Massachusetts moderate?
Still laughing!

I think Santorum will get Romney nominated as well. RS will be easy for Romney to take down after he is done using him to take out NEWT, IMO.
