BENEDICT OBAMA

The president went to the Pentagon yesterday to announce that we have a new defense posture.

Essentially, we are to bend over and grab our ankles.

The ship of state is being scuttled.

The dramatic decline in America’s security which has taken place through the three years of the Obama Administration is being capped with the gutting of the Armed Forces.

First he broke the Army through over-extension in Afghanistan. Then he stood by as stable governments across north Africa fell to essentially Islamist revolutions. Now he says that we need to cut the troops.

The Army – which has borne the heat of a decade-long, double-stacked war – will lose large numbers of soldiers. The Marine Corps will similarly be beaten back. The nuclear arsenal will be torn down even more.

And America will announce to the world that it does not intend to and will not prepare to repel two enemies at once. Having been spanked for a decade by two insurgencies, it will dial back its expectations and capabilities.

And thereby invite the world to attack.

As China publicly announces its desire to control the Pacific, and trains its soldiers to shoot video images of American troops, and deploys its first aircraft carrier, we retreat.

As Iran completes its nuclear bomb and Pakistan holds more tightly to its, we decide to demobilize ours.

As Russia blusters its way back to empire and Iran threatens navigation of the seas, we retreat and demobilize.

Venezuela offers bases to nuclear weapons and our foes finalize missile designs with us in their sights and we decide it’s time to do less.

Deficit spending is fine, untold trillions of dollars in debt is acceptable, unless it goes to the lone legitimate function of government – national defense. Money for welfare, but no money for freedom.

Twenty years ago the United States had the commitment and capability to fight and win two regional wars and a major war simultaneously.

Yesterday Barack Obama said that our future objective would be to win one regional war and to “spoil” or slow the enemy in a second one.

Heaven help us if there is a big war.

And heaven help us if some tinhorn starts a small war somewhere and somebody else sees that as an opening against us.

We have failed to preserve our military capability, we have failed to manage world events to our advantage, we have failed to focus our priorities.

As our military ability has waned, we have wasted it on Afghan escalation and nation building. As America-friendly regimes across northern Africa fell, we helped push them and pave the way for a current chaos which seems destined to become increasingly unstable and increasingly Islamic. Whereas the region was essentially stable, a year later – after we sat on our hands – it is essentially unstable and increasingly hostile.

The Arab spring was the American fall.

And amidst that backdrop, amidst a time of rising rivals and declared enemies, we seek peace through weakness. We have decided, in the face of rising world militarism, to disarm.

It’s hard to find a time in history when a nation has fallen so quickly and so certainly by its own failed leadership.

And yesterday was a jarring example of that.

In the face of Chinese, Iranian, Venezuelan, Islamic and Russian militarism and aggression, we are putting down our guns. We our downsizing our defense.

We have broken it in foolish wars, and we are not going to rebuild it.

And our enemies laugh.

The article title is a slur on the good name of Benedict Arnold.

I would remind you that Benedict was a private citizen and violated no oath as an officer when he delivered West Point to the English.

President Obama, as CIC, is under a current obligation to "preserve and protect the Constitution..." etc. as detailed in his oath of office.

...by its own failed leadership.

That's where you're wrong.

This is all by design, and he seems to be succeeding.

I’m beginning to think 9/11 was the end of America as we knew it. Since 9/11 we have become poorer, more subject to government tyranny, and more divided.

The hole in the ground at ground zero is evidence of our inability to come together and act. I know there is something there now, but not completed. How long did it take?

It seems that 9/11 wasn’t a death blow, but it was like a musket wound in the civil war. The wound isn’t killing us, it’s the infection.

“obama will go down in history as a leader that when you say his name, you spit on the ground”.

...I’ve been doing that for 3 years.

Join the state militia. It's going to be your last line of defense.

I am with you on that.

There really are only two choices: Incompetence (he is an idiot) or Strategic Design (He is intellectually superior and a big thinker)

Has the left and all his supporters not been promoting is brilliance?

Obama is no Benedict Arnold

Obama has been groomed as an infiltrator his whole life

That is far worse than a traitor, who was driven by circumstance

Bob Lonsberry’s writing style is not impressive to me. That said, this was a good article.

BENEDICT OBAMA

Use of the term "Benedict" implies that he was on our side at least at one point. I think I might dispute that.
