Obama: The Mask is Off
American Thinker ^ | January 6, 2012 | Steve McCann

The mask is fully off. Barack Obama is the most corrupt, power-mad president in this nation's illustrious history. By his actions in bypassing Congress and making appointments that should be subject to Senate approval while the Senate is still in session and innumerable extra-constitutional actions since he became president, he is following in the footsteps of the despots who dominated the 20th century.

In late September of 2008, it became clear to me that Barack Obama would be elected president. Based on his background, education, motivation, and indoctrination, I saw a man who could single-handedly destroy the country and someone with no respect for the history, the Constitution, or the people of the United States. The specter of a megalomaniac who was a stranger to the truth and would or say or do anything to achieve or retain power overcame me. In Barack Obama and his fellow travelers, I saw what I feared the most since I came to this country: a person and a political mindset that would, if allowed, spell the end of the noblest experiment in the history of mankind.

It was at that point that I wrote my first article for American Thinker in an attempt to warn the people of America that the result of the 2008 election would be critical to the nation's survival. This was the first column I had written since my college days over 40+ years before, and I am eternally grateful to AT for publishing it and giving me a forum to speak to the American people.

I had to survive a war that was precipitated by those who were initially elected by the people in a democratic fashion. Yet once in power, they began to systematically usurp and overthrow the rule of law. Their lust for power ...

The view of a WWII orphan who never knew his parents or actually even had any until he got lucky and came to America. I agree with him completely. It's helpful to remember that those who have bet against America in the past have never won. It is really now all up to us, just as the founders always knew it would be.

For residents of America who had been foreigners at certain places and times, there is a definite sense of “history is repeating itself.” Those people are sadder and more frightened for America than most Americans are. Fool us once, shame on you, fool us twice, shame on me?

Wow that is debatable. The list of corrupt US Presidents is fairly long and illustrious. Obama is a long ways from catching Lincoln in the corruption department. But give him credit, he is trying....

I've been on the road for the past couple of days (Vermont to Florida) and maybe I missed it, but has anyone heard a peep from any R Candidate?

The sound of silence comming from Republicans in Congress is also disgusting.

Is there not ONE Congress Criter who has a pair and will call our Neo-Commie, Dear Leader (LOUDLY AND PUBLICLY) on his mad power grab?

He’s a lefty. The ends justify the means. Intentions and goals are what matter - not what you actually do or what actually happens.

Can he be taken to court over it or is their some sort on censure possible?

Seems like R’s are sitting on their hands - maybe many would like to do this as well. The constraints of the Law are for everyone. When politicians throw off that restraint they are no longer working for the will of the people they are working for themselves. Every Republican should refuse to pass another bill or pass any money allocations until this is sorted but they won’t because you have a bunch of political wimps in power!

ANd frankly, I am not sure he has yet surpassed Andrew Jackson yet either-he was called King Andrew for a reason. Or even FDR, though a second term could allow him to do that

The republicans are nothing more than Obamas Lapdogs. They dont want to risk the chance of upsetting the gravytrain so they lay dog time after time.

It’s up to Congress to do something about it. If they won’t then they will have chosen to become irrelevant.

Nothing more powerful than the words of warning from someone who has 'seen the monsters' and lived the consequences. Do believe that now however; "those who bet against America" are winning; because there is no "shouting from the hilltops" - for all reasons mentioned in commentary.

Thanks as well, to weak Republican Leadership; third-rail Media; and 'down-home' Democrats (who do not recognize the difference between the American Flag and Obama's 'logo'); our threat level is maximizing.

If this President not halted; we will witness the worst of consequences per Obama's insatiable 'will to power' and that of all who prop him up. It is not just Michelle; who likes the sound of 'Your Excellency".

(The 'slippery slope to hell' is as ugly as it is painful. Not easy to change paths; but we can/must, of course. Or, as this writer warns; suffer, suffer. . .and look only to the desperate faces per 'history' to confirm.)

In this; only ONE candidate 'gets it'. His name is Newt.

Can he be taken to court over it or is their some sort on censure possible?

He certainly can be taken to court - by any member of the Senate. The Constitution is very clear that a recess appointment can ONLY be made when the Senate is in recess.

The pro forma session means that the Senate WAS in session. Which means that Obama COULD NOT make a recess appointment. This would be the argument against him.

Additionally, the Dodd-Frank law SPECIFICALLY states that the powers of the Director of the CFPB ARE NOT vested with him until he is "confirmed by the Senate" [actual text].

LASTLY, the claim by Obama [and Reid] that the Senate was "not technically in session" brings up a HUGE point. Reid called for [and got] "unanimous consent" for the Senate to be in "pro forma" session just before Christmas. That way, the Senate could go home early.

This was so that IF a deal on the extension of the "tax cuts" were reached, the Senators WOULD NOT have to come back to DC and wait three days in the Capitol before voting on it. And, the deal was reached.

Since the Senate was in pro forma session all the while - the Senators did their own thing for three days, then came back to DC, voted on the bill, and THEN got the hell back out of Dodge.

IF Obama AND Reid are correct about the pro forma session being a sham, THEN the bill that Obama signed IS NULL AND VOID - since the Senate WAS NOT in session AND the rules call for the bill to be signed ONLY after the final version has been available to the Senate for THREE days WHILE the Senate is IN SESSION.

OBAMA CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. He CANNOT claim that the pro forma session is a sham so he can make a recess appointment, YET claim the Senate WAS in session [by pro forma] when he signed the bill ...

One FINAL FINAL thing to post #16:

Obama’s OWN Solicitor General [and it MIGHT have been Kagan] has argued the Administration’s position before the Supreme Court that the Senate MUST be OUT of Session MORE than three days before a recess appoinment can be made. And that the pro forma session keeps the Senate IN SESSION.

This happened in 2010 ...

Well, yes; you make a great point; for sure. And I do fear that and more of same.

To my point (and fear of anything with more than two/four legs) NONE of these create value in our lives; much less; are they prompted by the instincts of 'moral reason'.

We do recognize and fear the 'will to power' in our President; or should; and various politicians; but somehow manage to overlook the same self-aggrandizing traits in our scientific community. . .those fueled by Government 'need' and funded by Government largesse and brought to life; by fine intellects at work; but morally inferior, rational thinking.

We know 'political meets scientific' (think 'Global Warming'; and yes, vaccines for another; but recommend Dr. Mary's Monkey, by Edward T. Haslam; to appreciate another unfortunate, meeting of minds.) for a fascinating look back - and to our future.
