Students Jeer Santorum on New Hampshire Blitz (for his views on social issues like gay marriage)
New York Times ^ | 01/05/2012 | By MICHAEL D. SHEAR

CONCORD, N.H. — As Rick Santorum sprinted Thursday through New Hampshire, a state with fewer social conservatives than Iowa, his views on social issues like same-sex marriage were quickly challenged.

A midday event in front of a gathering of college students here turned into a testy exchange in which Mr. Santorum compared allowing gay couples to marry to polygamy, apparently equating the two as equally undesirable.

“If you’re not happy unless you’re married to five other people, is that O.K.?” he asked.

The students booed Mr. Santorum during the 10-minute exchange and loudly booed when he left the room. The students were part of College Convention 2012, a forum organized by New England College and open to students from all over the state, regardless of political party.

Mr. Santorum, a Republican former senator from Pennsylvania, has generated criticism in the past for his views on social issues. In 2003, he argued that the Supreme Court should not overturn state bans on homosexual sex, saying that could create a precedent allowing bigamy, polygamy and incest.

“In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality,” Mr. Santorum said in a 2003 interview with an Associated Press reporter. “That’s not to pick on homosexuality. It’s not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be. It is one thing.”

In an interview with CNN’s John King on Thursday, Mr. Santorum defended his 2003 comments, saying: “I said it’s not those things. I didn’t connect them. I specifically excluded them.”

The exchanges about social issues came as Mr. Santorum campaigned across New Hampshire on Thursday, telling voters that they needed a candidate with “core convictions.”

Personally, ‘Creek, I’m a believer of Robert Heinlein’s take from “Starship Troopers”.

Only veterans should have the right to vote. No welfare babies, no pablum-brained students, no union thugs, no drug-addled ageing hipster professors.

Only those men and women who have demonstrated that they can put country first. The rest have no access to the public treasury.

Turn it into a positive.

Their jeers could mean hardening of the conservative, traditional, pro-family base and more donations to RS.

Mass reproduce it and show it at churches across the state on next Sunday, and also air it on TV. Serious. Get it nationwide on CBN. Start running the outtakes in ads, video or audio, in South Carolina. Wear this as a proud badge of courage. Particularly in non-college NH towns but more conservative NH markets. Put it in flyer and windshield it massive in church and conservative synogogue parking lots all Saturday and Sunday next, and also in black neighborhoods across the state.

This shouldn't be an issue anymore. It's time to move on.

We should be more concerned about the ability of the all American people to SURVIVE with dignity. This includes access to clean water, nutritious food, adequate medical care, and basic shelter. Too many US citizens are in danger of losing basic necessities....And I'm not talkihg welfare.

DIGNITY is all about being part of the solution. This means JOBS. At the very least, as American citizens, as human beings, we should be able to love those whom we choose to love... without legislation.

He doesn’t back down. Santorum has core convictions. Most politicians try to be all things to all people.

Unfortunately that’s not possible when it comes to one’s values. One has to take a stand in life.

Especially on traditional values. There will always be people who will hate him for espousing them.

But no country can survive without marriage between a man and a woman and the traditional family.

This is where we must draw the line.

Probably the only good thing about “students” is, they continually remind us older folks what it was like to be dumb, young and stupid.

Use it ASAP, Rick Santorum, for a TV AD in the Bible Belt (S. Carolina, Northern Florida, etc). No kidding. Jeering and all. Then top it off with an appropriate New Testament quote about virtue vs. evil, light vs. dark.

Sadly, too many young people have been convinced that homosexual marriage is a ‘fairness’ issue. They are confused about what marriage is, and frankly, heterosexuals in their parents’ generation haven’t done much to make it clear why marriage is important. In fact, they’ve done the opposite by showing how easy it is to break one up, by easy divorce, and ‘live in lover’ lifestyles.

No, he shouldn’t use it. He can’t play into the phony meme that he is running for Pope by using Bible verses. “We’re on the precipice of economic catastrophe, and YOU are asking me about gay marriage. Does nothing else concern you?” should be his response. Bob

I figured this would start happening in NH. I love the fact that Santorum isn’t afraid to brave these hornet’s nests. Somebody has to go in and speak the truth to these kids. He is a brave man for doing so. I’m guessing that he will pick up votes every time people see him being berated by some young dimwit because he won’t embrace the anal vice.

The students booed Mr. Santorum...surely not all of them - but what's a little distortion of the facts when your real agenda isn't good reporting but smearing a conservative......

Depends. America is not all one big single, same demographic. That would go over very well in some parts of the country which he needs to win. Let the libs own libertine cries for even more depravity (electorally) hang them by their own necks.

No offense, but you seem to have little idea of just how hostile millions of Americans are to SERIOUS Christianity. This strategy of quoting Bible verses would be disastrous for Rick. Decades of prapaganda in schools and culture have taken a horrific toll against all our foundational principles. People have lost the ability to think critically, so moronic slogans suffice, and life is as any given person wishes it to be. Else, Obama would be rejected by every person with an IQ above 80. Bob

We have already gone over the precipice of moral and cultural catastophe. If we are to ever to prevent things from getting even worse and see this nation’s greatness restored, someone has to speak the truth about this and related issues. As important as economic issues are,if any candidate is too spineless to speak the truth(and that includes quoting the Bible)about moral issues, then he or she doesn’t get my vote.

I’m sorry, but guys like you would doom good candidates to failure. Santorum can quote all the Bible verses he wants-—from the Oval Office. Thanks to the diabolical, repulsive left, too many Americans don’t even understand what Christianity is, let alone the guidance and blessings it offered to our Founders in the creation of our great Constitution.
In the opinion of the fools, ALL religions are resposible for most of the wars as well as the ills of society. Santorum must address the issues which will elect him, and leave Biblical insights for another day. Bob

DIGNITY=JOBS? Not when Welfare is an ENTITLEMENT and a dividend from stock I invested part of my paycheck in is UNEARNED INCOME.

When are these kids going to get it thou their thick skull there is no such thing as “Same sex marriage”. Willing it and making Goverment lie about it wont change that fact.

Marriage is a union between 1 man and 1 woman for the theoretical proposes raising children.(A family) It has no other propose and is frankly not possible between anything other than a man and woman.

Every self-professed libertarian needs to get over the fact that they can’t change the laws of nature, nor is their any point to doing so. Every man, gay or not, can get married if he can find a woman who would have him. Likewise every woman, lesbian or not, can get married if she can find a man who would have her.

There IS NO DISCRIMINATION HERE PEROID!

The problem lays in their totally false primis about the nature & definition of marriage. No you don’t marry people simply because you love them. You demonstratively can love a lot of people and you can’t marry them all either. The Media has misled much of our civilization in to this irrational(and now destructive) fiction and it has to stop!

If you try to forcefully redefine the institution into something practically meaningless(as this definition would be) we will be even more robed of the same institution then we already are.

Strictly speaking Marriage was a religious and cultural institution designed for kids, there was no easy divorce, certainly not unilateral divorce. Both party’s agreed to stick it out to keep a family together & functioning.

Many leftist states started destroying this in the 1950’s with ever more careless divorces. Theses easy divorces robed the ascent institution of marriage of much of its meaning & strength, and was made possible by a previous cultural revolution regarding the meaning of marriage.

now instead of producing & sustaining family it became about love. A totally ridiculous concept on face value, as illustrated above. You can love a great many people but you can only marry one person who is:

1: Is of age.
2: Is of the same species.
3: Is of the opposite sex.
4: Is Unmarried.

Yet you can clearly & unambiguously love anyone who doesn’t fit any or all of theses qualifications. You simply can’t have children with them, and that there is the point.

Society is not going to wast resources in holding your “union” together if it in principles is incapable of aiding in propagation of the same with children.
