Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
I know, that’s why I pinged you. As you can see my reply was to the guy that made the comment and I pinged you and a couple other people that I know agree with me.
We got rid of cable 3 yrs ago. Best thing. We watch old movies and a few TV shows on DVD. Staying at my Sister in law’s tonight (who has cable) and still watched DVDs rather than news.
I have been following it on FR though. Fox has been worthless for a few years now.
“We are dealing in a very small number of votes here.”
Yep. Sounds like from what I’m hearing they are gonna recheck em all and announce the official numbers tomorrow.
Which is to be expected, given such a slim margin.
Chair woman of Clinton said total is:
Romney 437
Santorum 354
Ron Paul 292
Newt Gingrich 151
Rick Perry 73
Michele Bachmann 62
Herman Cain 5
and if true Romney wins anyways.
Thune/Johnson was a Senate race in ‘02, with Johnson winning by @ 500; Thune/Daschle, also a Senate race, in ‘04 had Thune winning by @ 4500. No landslides there, tho I imagine Thune would do better in a re-election race than in a challenge to the very well funded Senate Minority/Majority leader.
You're from TX, so I know you remember the Texas Two Step, the Super delegates, and the local Dem caucuses that were flooded with Obama supporters (kinda like Paul Supporters) who were claiming they were the elected delegates vs, some of the actual delegates, then when they got called on it, the race card got played. There were actual fights.
I am guessing the Dem's won't have the Texas Two Step this go round in the Lone Star State.
Well, this has been a very long and strange day.
The game has completely changed and for the better.
We’ll get the official results tomorrow.
Although it's been many years, Mitt gets a boost from his dad's time as governor of Michigan. My dad is 91, and it's influencing his thinking. I'm sure he isn't alone.
CNN is pointing out a slight gap but has Romney winning at 24 based on the gals who phoned in the numbers from the missing precinct to the Iowa Republican Party. But 14 has been floated in favor of Romney also from the Romney campaign and others.
I’ve been running the numbers since Cain was in.
There’s absolutely no reason why Santorum can’t compete in all the other rust belt states. The only one that might not be the case is Illinois, which was a surprising victory for Cain.
This race just got much, much more interesting.
Imagine if Ron Paul had of left his hands out of the race....golly I detest him so much! Never will see him in any way as one of ours....he’s not.
Unreal... reporting that there will be no recount, no matter how close the vote is...

There was also the lawsuit (Daschle v. Thune) the night before the election, first presided over by a judge who was Daschle’s lawyer in his first ‘victory’ (like 26 votes) and the lawsuit there. It ended up with it going to the state supreme court in the middle of the night, calling them out in a blizzard. Not a happy SSC.
My mom grew up in SD and even though we lived in CA at the time, we were up watching it online.
The GOP gains nothing from a recount, big deal, let Mitt have his Pyrrhic Victory, but nobody will be talking about him tomorrow, it’s all about Santorum now.
I predicted all night long what would happen.
The RINOs from DC control who wins in American.
I seen more honest elections in the Philippines
under Marcos!
Whoo Hoo! Hotair reports that the SUPER PAC for Newt Gingrich is going after MITT ROMNEY.
Ann Coulter quipped that it was a case of "too many chiefs, not enough Indians."
From the article...no recount...
...votes were counted under the supervision of campaign representatives, who certified the totals. He said the numbers were double-checked when they were reported to state officials, and there is no reason to check them again.

Great. The long knives are out to get Romney. If Newt joins Rick Santorum and if Bachmann or Perry join them as well if either one decides they will ride it out to South Carolina loss and they gang up on Romney that helps. Lots of ifs. But a start.
