Iran threatens action if U.S. carrier returns: IRNA Photo 4:49am EST
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran will take action if a U.S. aircraft carrier which left the area because of Iranian naval exercises returns to the Gulf, the state news agency quoted army chief Ataollah Salehi as saying on Tuesday.
"Iran will not repeat its warning ... the enemy's carrier has been moved to the Sea of Oman because of our drill. I recommend and emphasize to the American carrier not to return to the Persian Gulf," Salehi told IRNA.
"I advise, recommend and warn them (the Americans) over the return of this carrier to the Persian Gulf because we are not in the habit of warning more than once," the semi-official Fars news agency quoted Salehi as saying.
Salehi did not name the aircraft carrier or give details of the action Iran might take if it returned.

The Chinese would be vastly overplaying their hand. How are they going to get the oil they need across the Indian Ocean and back home?
Iran isn't a client state of China in the way Pakistan is. They mainly back Iran as a way of poking us and placing themselves as a power broker.
Theoretically, they Chinese could march to Iran via Pakistan, or base fighters there, but I just don't see that happening.
IMHO the forced annexation of Taiwan is just a matter of time. The West has done to Taiwan what was done to Czechoslovakia at Munich, but on a much slower time-line.
Same thing today. We have a weak President who the Iranians think they can push around.
Thank you for that. An interesting analysis.
Personally I am leaning more towards your second option than the bluff and bluster, precisely because Ahmadinajad is in trouble with his superiors and needs to drum up some personal support, while the MSM in the west runs around screaming the sky is falling.
Almost makes you long for the days when the media respected the ROE and operational security.
Mind games with BO would bore iran pretty quick. Tic-tac-toe would be the most challenging game available.
Time for the carrier to hang a larry and steam back up into the Gulf.
I wonder how long Iran will drag this sabre-rattling on? Given we will soon be in the middle of an intense Presidential primary season, this could get dicey quick. Everyone trying to appear tougher than the other guy. I imagine too, that if anything dramatic happens overseas, Obama and his thugs will milk it for all its worth, at the expense of the country and the GOP.
In another strongly-worded message, Iranian leaders rebuked the sun for crossing Iranian airspace. The Iranians stated unequivocally that the sun would not be allowed to return from the west, where it had departed from Iran only hours earlier. “We are not in the habit of giving more than one warning!” shouted an Iranian general in making it clear that the sun, once it departed to the west, was not to turn around and come back toward the east.
I take it your kid is not on board.
If a silkworm were to hit a CV, there will be casualties,
including horrible burns.
One should be careful what one wishes for..
Yes people forget Iran has to export also. I think they have a big export terminal out in the middle of the Gulf on Karg Island which we could basically turn into silly putty. We bombed the stew out of it last time around. Plus we could just totally destroy their navy in a day. They have some silkworms that would be worrisome but the price they would pay to blow off a few missiles would be too devastating. They are just pulling our tail because they know the muzzie lovin commie in the White Hut will put up with it. Jimmah Carter redux.
This just up on Drudge:
U.S. says will continue to deploy warships in Persian Gulf despite Iranian threats
I’m pretty sure the Chinese who probably not baffled by our PC see the USA as becoming a 3000 mile wide Detroit, patience on their part. The wiley Ruskies on the other hand could use a boost in oil prices.
Silence! I keel you!
I don’t think Iranians even want to start Armageddon war yet. They can take videos all they want as surveillance videos of U.S. warship passing through the narrow strait but they’re not that stupid to turkey shoot any, are you kidding? They may be hoping if hussein would bow to the Iranian threats but he’d be force to take action no matter what.
Far easier to go by sea. Except for the fact that they have to pass by India, which is unfriendly to China, sitting right there athwart China's supply lines. The Chinese aren't ready to challenge the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean, much less the U.S. Navy.
As I said, I don't see it happening, but for an example of how it would be done, see "Alexander the Great".
They have three Kilo Class subs. I think a bunch of torpedoes will ruin a carriers day. It may not sink but it will be out of action for a bit.
