"That's a cheap shot, Alan. To say it's crazy, something that's that personal and hurtful as losing a child and to mock it like that is beyond the pale and beneath you," Colmes' conservative opponent Rich Lowry said after the personal attack. “I even think some of the dastardly characters we have in the main stream media are not going to go as low as you just have Alan,” National Review editor Rick Lowry said later in the conversation.

My son died at birth 10 years ago. My wife and i held him and dressed him. We took his photo. It definitely helped my wife and I in our mourning. My girls were too young to know what was going on except that there was a great sadness. They weren’t at the hospital but they new the baby was gone when mom came home and they cried. I wished at the time they could have held the brother they had talked and sang to in the womb.
I have attended services in foriegn countries as well and while I didn’t understand all the customs I knew enough to respect another’s choices in how they chose to grieve.
IF people in the US have gotten to the point that they can no longer respect even how another grieves then we are far further gone than I had even imagined was possible. Bar the door, take a swig, and bear down hard because if that is where we are the pain coming is going to be far beyond what most can tolerate.
I emailed fox news on their website. Told them I would never watch or support fox news as long as they allow that ghoul to stain my TV.

I’m done. The only reason I kept my cable was for fox and a few movies. I’ll get the movies elsewhere. As for Fox, I’ve canceled the cable and deleted my aps and bookmarks. As long as Alan remains a part of Fox in any manner I’m gone. His snarky insensitivity was beyond the pale. It was uncalled for asinine shock journalism of the worst sort and demonstrates clearly how far Fox has fallen in the past few years.
Any attempt to retain or rehabilitate him will only further deepen the entitled attitude that Fox seems to feel they can afford due to being “less bad” than everyone else. Anyone who continues to willingly associate themselves with such an unmitigated ass only cheapens themselves and demonstrates a total lack of class.
Rick may have accepted his apology, demonstrating his profound character; but I’m not required to subject myself or my family to any such future occurences.
Until he’s gone goodbye.

See, now I want a giant headstone with my name splashed across it. In Italy, they have photos of the dead on the tombstones. But Italy does everything with panache.
I wish politicians would not forgive these creeps so easily. Why can’t they say: look, you said something awful, I need time to think about it before I’ll give you a public acceptance of your apology. Instead, they instantly forgive, the story gets buried...until the next time something awful gets said.

I think this shows just how divided America is on some very basic questions of the nature of life... even in conservative circles.
I don't know Mariner or USADave, but from their words I think it's clear both of them consider their views to be obvious common sense and don't understand how anybody could disagree.
The simple fact of the matter is we no longer have a consensus in America even on some of the most basic issues.

I have major problems with secular conservatives on issues like this, but the fact of the matter is Mariner is at least partly right: lots of people **WILL** think taking a baby home to mourn is strange.
That says more about how modern America views life than it does about Santorum and his family's grieving process, but it is something we have to deal with as conservative Christians who want to win elections.
If Santorum, Huckabee, Bachmann or someone like them — or for that matter, Sarah Palin — ever wins the Republican nomination for President, we're going to have to deal with this split between social issues conservatives (who aren't just evangelicals but also conservative Roman Catholics and Orthodox and Hasidic Jews) and our secular conservatives whose focus is on small government, personal liberty, and promoting the economy.
This is not a minor problem and could easily split the conservative movement.
My solution, for now, is to say this to both liberals and libertarian-leaning conservatives: “You believe in freedom of choice. What gives you the right to interfere with another family's choice of how to grieve?”
Long-term, we as conservatives need to work on building a culture of respect for life; most libertarians truly don't understand the consequences of their beliefs and don't realize they are repeating the older liberalism of the late 1700s to the mid-1800s which focused on free enterprise and not the moral responsibilities of property owners and employers. For now, however, we have to realize that we can't win elections outside the South, certain parts of the rural North, and heavily Hispanic Roman Catholic communities without convincing people to vote with us whose main agendas are not social issues but rather the military or economics.
It's a three-legged stool. We need the social issues conservatives, the military conservatives, and the economic conservatives. Ideally I'd like to see people be in favor of all three positions, but that's simply not the case in modern America, and we need to take conservative support where we can get it.

Superb! I’d be divorced for turning off cable (no dancing w stars, no marriage!) but this is awesome that you’ve got more intestinal fortitude than I’ve got.
So of the 20 plus people cc’d at Fox who’d I hear back from? No one! Anyone else hear back? I did get on form letter within three minutes, don’t think that counts.
I’m trying to figure out who sponsors him, or who had commercials up at the time. The money aspect always get’s the folks who have to pay the bills’ attention.
I’ve heard he’s attached to a college too. Probably Columbia, just as a guess. They’d probably give him an award.....
