Gingrich: Romney Would Buy White House If He Could By SHANNON MCCAFFREY Newt Gingrich said Sunday his GOP rival Mitt Romney would buy the presidency if he could.
Speaking to reporters after attending Mass at the St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines, Gingrich said the amount that the former Massachusetts governor will eventually spend on his various campaigns will rival the spending of billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
"Romney would buy the election if he could," Gingrich said. A political action committee supporting Romney has rolled out ads attacking Gingrich in the days before Tuesday's caucuses. They have helped erode his support in the state.
A new Des Moines Register poll put Gingrich in fourth place, after leading the field a few weeks ago.
The former House speaker said Sunday that the most accurate part of the survey was that 41 percent said they could change their opinion.

I think selling the White House would be a good idea. The Capitol as well. It would make a good Burger King.
That seems to be the game for all these days. The only difference is that Romney has his own money to do it with.
If Milty doesn’t have a billion dollars, there is no way he’ll be able to outbid the Kenyan.
Unfortunately for Mitt, George Soros already bought the white house and installed a puppet of his own choosing.
That's the ultimate plan all along, isn't it?
Sounds like something a redistributionist, Occupy Democrat would say.
The irony of it is "Milty" getting the nod will only guarantee a second term for the Kenyan anyway.
Newt wouldn’t buy it even if he could - once Callista found out he had that kind of money she’d be off to Tiffanys with it!
Ping!
“The irony of it is “Milty” getting the nod will only guarantee a second term for the Kenyan anyway.”
Most likely. I wonder how low the turnout would be for an Obama versus Romney ratfight. Perhaps the most important election in our history with perhaps the worst candidates, and with a depressed voter turnout.
A friend of mine thinks this will happen and that disaffection will result in O v R and a left alternative independent and a right alternative independent in a for way chaos. I just know I will never cast a vote for Romney or Obama, unless it is to throw excess baggage off of a foundering ship.
That’s true of pretty much any politician.
What would you rather have?
A man who spends his own money or a man who spends other people’s money and says they don’t influence him?
Who is stupid? The people who believe that donors don’t have influence or the donors who are giving the money?
The good folks of South Carolina will let liberal Willard know the White House is not for sale.
Mitt Romney cannot beat Obama! No way! I think if Newt was running against Obama, I believe he could run away debating Obama.
I’m aggravated with Fox and I’ve written them to tell them so! Not that it will do any good. Someone called them the Faux network now and I agree. I’m fed up with the whole bunch. They’ve given Michelle Bachmann so much airtime, its pitiful. She stays last in the polls and Fox has given her so much time and the same for Rick Santorum!!
For one thing, Obama knows that debating is Newt's strength so he will only agree to do one debate if any at all. Newt will not be able to dictate the debates. He said that he is going to follow Obama around every where he goes, but does he have the energy to do this? I think is is terribly out of shape. He is not as fat as Christie in NJ, but he is rabidly Obese. I can't remember the last time we had such a huge fat President. I don't know in the day of American Idol that Newt would win the Presidency.
(Hey, naps, don't feel bad ... above, I nearly wrote "recently quashed brew," which would have been hilariously ironic and I'd not have lived it down for years -- thank God for dictionaries and the instinct to double-check! {^)
This has probably been the most divisive Republican primary contest ever, which only helps Obama. I don't think saying things like this enhances Newt's chances of winning the nomination--it just reinforces his old image as someone who spouts off in an undisciplined way. Whatever happened to Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment?
And if Gingrich had more campaign money, he wouldn’t spend it, because I guess it would be beneath him.
RNC is buying it for him.
