Ninety floors... and counting: The breathtaking views from One World Trade Center
Daily Mail ^ | December 16, 2011 | Louise Boyle

When it is completed, it will be the tallest building in Manhattan and one of incredible poignancy for New York City.

One World Trade Center reached its 90th floor this week - with just 14 more floors to go until the top. The structure can now be seen from all five boroughs of the city.

Stunning pictures showed how the area has been reborn since the 9/11 attacks more than a decade ago where almost 3,000 people lost their lives in the worst ever terrorist attack on American soil.

One World Trade Center is on track to be completed by 2013 with construction workers approximately finishing a floor a week in downtown Manhattan.

Electrical contractors at the tower agreed to give it a festive feel and wrapped the exterior lamps they use with coloured cellophane in time for Christmas.

Cool photos but the photographer likes the HDR a bit too much.

Yeah, the dude cranked the blue over the top. Totally unreal. It's fun on some pics, but let's not do everything in HDR. Kind of like back in the 60s - 70s when half the pictures were posterized.

Thank you. I remember we could see the curvature of the earth from the deck of the original.

HDR is high dynamic range. If you want to see more, go to google, click on images in the upper left, and search ‘hdr’. You will get a ton. Some of them are very cool, but a steady diet gets a bit old.

Years ago at a convention in Chicago, there was some gala reception in the bar atop the Sears Tower.....it took me about three stiff drinks before I’d get more than a few steps from the elevator.

Thank you for posting this. I’m a native New Yorker, now living in VT. Half my family came into NY Harbor during the Irish potato famine of the 1840s. The other half were already there when the 2nd half showed up LOL.

You did my ancestral stomping grounds proud with your post.

In 1984-1985 I worked on the 89th floor of 2 WTC. Ebasco was there at the time, with a good amount of nuclear work.

Can’t remember what floors I’d visited for business, maybe not TOO high, but the offices never bothered me, it was just that blanking restaurant.

If you recall how it was tiered, we were seated in a banquette on the top tier, and I kept leaning back, as if, had I leaned forward, I’d have fallen out of the building, into New Jersey somewhere ;)

That was a great show. I wish they’d repeat it. Worth watching more than one time for sure.

Thanks for posting those outstanding photos.

I have a question: you noted that there are two 50-ft. pools. Fifty feet deep? Was that an error? If not, why so deep?

To answer your questions, I have drawn from the architectural designs.

This memorial proposes a space that resonates with the feelings of loss and absence that were generated by the destruction of the World Trade Center and the taking of thousands of lives on September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. It is located in a field of trees that is interrupted by two large voids containing recessed pools. The pools and the ramps that surround them encompass the footprints of the twin towers. A cascade of water that describes the perimeter of each square feeds the pools with a continuous stream. They are large voids, open and visible reminders of the absence.

I love VT! Since relocating from downstate NY to the Capital District, I have often taken Rte 4 over to Burlington. Beautiful scenery, friendly folks and good food.
