I met some illegal Mexicans last night at a party. Several years ago I stayed with a couple of wonderful Mexican families in the Baja below California. These were well-off people. The homes, on average were beautifully tiled and some of them had mahogany inlaid walls, bookshelves and cabinetry that would cost a hundred-thousand dollars here. So, Im guessing if they arent rich theyre very comfortable. The elderly not as well-off grandfather, while living in Mexico was receiving Social Security from the United States and owned a rent-free apartment in California which he used as his address to receive several forms of assistance checks from Californian agencies. He visited the apartment once a week to re-arrange things and make it looked lived in. He had a car, a Toyota Corolla that looked quite nice and had working air-conditioning. I gathered it was supplied as some form of assistance and he generally left it in California at the apartment. The apartment was about 1100 square feet and very livable. The grandfather told me most of entire complex, easily a 1000 units, were like him, on Californian assistance, but actually living in Mexico.
At the party were a couple of teenage boys from this family. Very nice kids. Id be proud to have them as my own; diligent, hard working, trouble-free and much more adult than youd expect from that age. They told me that theyd decided to go to high school in California instead of Mexico. They said that the (California) government gave them an apartment and they travel back to Mexico on the weekends. (I dont know if theyre staying alone or if a family member is staying with them, but if I had to guess, they came alone.)
When I posted information on this family last time, Freepers angrily asked why I hadnt reported them. Firstly, I was a well-treated guest. Secondly, this must be obvious to the casual observer. Even if I knew who to report it to in California, which I dont, it is obvious that this is how its done. These people are only taking advantage of benefits put there for them. Not to avail themselves of these benefits would be like deciding not to take candy freely offered to you.
Re: Luks kinda vishuz.
Precious!
On another plane, has anyone done a census on the number of grumbling rugs in the continental US? More specifically, the number of gr’s that have tentacles. Do they get grouchier when asked intrusive questions and refuse to respond? Are tentacles genetically recessive?
Big Rock Candy Mountain is real, complete with “Lemonade Springs.”
Also, rock candy was for sale. It came in differing sizes, shapes and color mottling, but it tasted like those Easter eggs with the hard sugar shells and soft sugar candy inside.
The whole place looked like it may have been part of a volcano, but there was a lot of sulphur in the soil and the water. Really an interesting place.
I dont know if it is still in existence, but it was fun to see when i was a kid.
Theoretically.
However, when the chaos is multiple car failures in one day within five minutes, you tend to wonder if the universe is playing a sick joke on you.
Do you recall its location? (You could break a tooth on rock candy.)
Of *course* the universe is playing sick jokes on you—why should you be any exception?
Does Klawwix get airsick?
He probably does get airsick.
Probably what those dangly tentacle looking things are from.
Ash is not much for rolling in things, although she does lie on her back in the sunshine in an embarassing way. I made her bath appointment for Friday morning, and we can wash her “Dora the Explorer” blanket while she’s at the groomer. It’s a hard life, being a dog around here.
We have some creeping rugs here, but none that appear to grumble, at least in the daytime. And if tentacles are being discarded, I suspect a cat is hiding them under the sofa.
If it is still in operation, it is somewhere in southern Utah, on Rte. 89. It would be between Glen Canyon Dam and Thistle, which is quite a spread, but since i was too young to drive, its the best i can do.
If my computer were up, i would Google it.
Look for Candy Mountain Resort in Fishlake Natl Forest in Utah.
All this talk about Rock Candy is making me hungry.....
Maybe it’s the smell of me cooking onions.
“That our employees in DC have clearly forgotten for whom they work...is our fault...that of We the People...”
True. We obviously have not made anything like adequate use of the abundance of rope and trees we enjoy in this country; the politicians do not fear us nearly enough.
I actually started a pot of split pea soup. Onions, celery and carrots sautéed in olive oil with fresh cracked black pepper, add freshly washed split peas, some water and some chicken stock, cook until vegetables are tender. Serve with Challah or corn bread.
Daughter awakened thinking she had body odor. I guess the onions were rather pungent. I shall have to bake brownies to get the smell out of the house. Heh!
This story seems super fake.
Given the long lines that still exist at embassies around the world, I and others do not care how sympathetic a story these ILLEGAL CRIMINALS have.
If they are minors then they go with their parents when the parents are deported, the end.
Sounds fine to me, but the onions could have been extra-strong! I’m making “turkey chops” in cranberry sauce. It’s been very stressful for Ash - not much on 99% fat-free turkey-pieces to share with the dog.
When We the People have decided that we have had enough, they will fear us - believe that. Why do you think they passed the National Defense Authorization Act and Obama signed it into law? Our armed forces are now empowered to detain any American anywhere in the world on suspicion of being a terrorist and hold that person indefinitely without a trial or the right to legal counsel. There are federal prisons recently constructed sitting empty, ready and waiting for those prisoners.
Hi, Girl!

The father of our Undeadly guest “Quix” has passed away. I’m sure he’d appreciate sympathies from all who pass through the UT.
Thanks! I used to volunteer in Utah at the Angel Canyon no-kill shelter called Best Friends when I was on vacation. It was a lot of fun and I met really neat people.
