Politics: A Blood Sport (We need Republican Gladiators)
The Black Sphere ^ | Dec. 27, 2011 | Kevin Jackson

Posted on 12/28/2011 3:45:24 PM PST by Ronin

I get asked all the time, “Who do you support as the Republican presidential nominee?” My answer is “Whoever is left standing at the end with the bloodiest knuckles.” Politics is a blood sport, and only gladiators become kings, even some undeserved.

Hillary found this out the hard way, as she made the mistake of underestimating Barack Obama’s ruthlessness or rather the ruthlessness of Obama’s henchmen. Hillary fought like a Republican, afraid to confront Obama on many issues, choosing to deal only with his inexperience; as if she had any experience.

Hillary should have fought like a gladiator, exposing all the dirt she knew of Obama. She should have body-slammed his boney butt on Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, Muslim ties, his not releasing his college records and much more. She could have “Cained” him asking “Where are the women that Obama dated,” alluding to his lack of female dalliances.

By choosing not to grab Obama by the naughty bits and squeeze until it hurt, Hillary got Kung Fu’d ghetto style into Secretary of Statedom. Hillary was sucker punched by a metrosexual gladiator, I call Sissyfuss, named for the Greek god Sisyphus condemned to repeat the tedious and arduous role of pushing the boulder a mountain only to watch it roll down again.

Republicans must be both the boulder and the mountain, giving Obama an impossible task…re-election. This should be relatively easy, as Obama finally has a record that is front and center, and he can’t run from it. The good news is, he won’t.

Obama will do his best to spin it. And the media will be more than willing to help as they will claim that his policies are “ahead of their time.” As one Liberal pundit said of Obama [pp],

“President Obama is too good for America. We simply weren’t ready for him.”

For the Left, Obama is too good for the racist white folks who have refused to appreciate Obama’s almost 9% unemployment[1], his $15T+ deficit[2], and his demoralization of America. All this was necessary for the healing to begin.

Obama has worked himself into a corner and he needs a villain. “Where da white people at?” More specifically, “Where is the white Republican candidate at?”

What Obama doesn’t want is a Republican warrior. This is why Republicans need a knock-down, drag out Republican primary season. When we think of who we want to make it through the primaries to become our candidate, think Spartan, the toughest warriors ever. Spartans sent their future king into the wilderness alone around age 12. If he made it back, then he would become king.

A leader should be a warrior first and foremost. You should want your leader to be the guy on the horse in front of the troops giving the inspirational speech, preparing the troops for battle. What we have begun settling for in America are leaders who have their lawyers in front on those horses, warning of the potential dangers and the lawsuits that might ensue if we don’t fight fair.

I want a leader who if pushed comes to shove would take off his jacket and tie, then put the smack down on another leader. I want a leader who will spank Putin with his own black belt. I want a leader who will send a back-channel communiqué to Iran in the form of a gift-wrapped platter. Inside the package would be a note telling Ahmedinejad,

“This platter will have your ass on it, if you threaten Israel publicly or privately again. Oh, and shut down the nuke program or we will make Iran a big sheet of glass in the Middle East. Happy Hanukkah, Punk!”

Diplomacy, shiplomacy; there comes a time, when you just need to open up a can of whoop ass on a country to let them know who’s in charge. I’m no warmonger, but diplomacy fails a helluva lot more than war. And bad diplomacy leads to the potential to be treated like Ike treated Tina Turner by “tiny” countries.

Obama is as weak as he is stupid. He got lucky with Hillary, so the Republican candidate must not offer quarter. He must seize on Obama’s record, and with a series of jabs, as no knockout punches are needed. The Republican candidate must show the difference between fake bravado and real leadership.

The next president of this country needs to reinforce the greatness of America, the best country in the history of the world, bar none. If you can’t say that easily, then you don’t deserve to be president. If you believe that you need to soft shoe the greatness of America, because you want other countries to feel better about themselves, you don’t deserve to be president.

That’s my rant!

Not that Trump is much of a conservative but this article is describing his style.

The only way we have a chance to win the general election if it becomes about worlds colliding, about a clash of civilizations. That’s how far the left has gone, they are becoming a state within a state, founded on values that are anathema to America and her constitution. Obama is their God-King and the Occupy Wall Streeters are their growing legion of ground troops (I expect an alliance of convenience with the Paulestinians will be formed soon enough.).

For this fight, we need not just a man, but a myth, someone who brings with him not mere baggage, but the stuff of legend. Newt is a man who contains worlds within himself, at least two or three. He is a fearless champion who has the gravitas to roll with the punches against the worst barrages the left can throw at him, pull himself together and respond in kind by laying the smack down squarely on Barack’s shoulders. We need to be prepared for a clash of the titans. For that we need a lion, not a scarecrow. We cannot afford to bring Mittens to a Newt-fight.

LOL, I have read more than a little bit of history, and do not know of one gladiator that became a king. Except in Hollywood.

Thanks for my new tagline!

That’s superb...wish I’d thought of it :-)

Newt is certainly the right man to take the fight to the MSM and all the rest of the far leftist scum.

I agree. We can't play Marquess of Queensberry while the Democrats are playing Beyond Thunderdome.

I liked both Palin and Cain, but one thing we definitely can't afford in a candidate is a glass jaw -- which they both had. This is not the time for nice, nice.

We need a kick-ass and take names candidate that will engage the enemy, shrug off blows, and keep on stomping. Although I had a hard time choking down the idea of Newt as the nominee, now that it is past the adam's apple, I find it strangely satisfying.

At least Newt is not going to faint and scurry off the stage at the first sight of blood.

And whodat? You're missing the point. Yes, as properly defined, gladiators were not kings. Kevin is using the term as a generally accepted reference for "warrior" and I don't have a problem with that.

GOP elite divided against itself
Conservative establishment getting vilified

Jonah Goldberg

December 28, 2011

I’ve made a disturbing discovery: I am a member of the conservative “establishment.” I feel like Michael Douglas at the end of “Falling Down”: “I’m the bad guy?”

Largely in response to the real and perceived excesses of the Bush years and the overreach of the Obama administration, the base has become more populist. In particular, the rank and file of the GOP and the conservative movement have become deeply disenchanted with what they see as the rubber-spined, foot-dragging quislings drinking from a trough of Chablis at some Georgetown party. The term “RINO” (Republican In Name Only) has become an epithet of ideological enforcement, spit out in much the same way Mao cursed “running dog capitalists.”

We need a fighter, not a “I look really pretty in photos and can deliver all the required talking points on cue” wimp.

No reversing the 17 point plunge. Noot is nobodies gladiator, way over the hill. The obummer would take him out with half of his war chest. And if needed Obummer will take out Iran next October, game over.

What I know is that we cannot have a nuanced candidate.

We must have a candidate that communicates Conservative principles and exposes the liberal socialist lies for what they are. This election must expose the socialist progressives and it must make clear the danger of what lies ahead if they stay in power.

I don’t care for that most electable tripe. If the country is so screwed up that they can’t see the danger of the last 3 years under Obama and they can’t rationalize the failures of the socialist programs that have been enacted over the last 70 years than it may be beyond saving.

If the country approves of more socialist engineering by the Democrat and non-conservative portions of the Republican parties than the country gets what it elects.

As long as our ultimate candidate effectively communicates to the nation that the future under Obama will mean the ultimate destruction of this nation than that is all I will hope for.

In the end it is pointless to argue, history teaches us that in a Democracy, once the majority votes for a political arm that bribes it through entitlements and benefits packages and they feel that they can continue to vote themselves largess from the public trust, than the Deomcracy will ultimately fail from its loose fiscal policy.

Enslavement follows, this election will mean the difference of your childrens children living in freedom or enslaved by a dictatorship thats how important it is.

I pray to God, that our generation will not be regarded as the generation who failed to save America.

“Obama is as weak as he is stupid. He got lucky with Hillary”,

As he was with that fool ass McCain. Obama’s weaknesses were the most target rich environment ever and the old fighter bomber pilot wouldn’t pull the trigger.

Oh please...

A war chest is not everything, as Mittens is finding out now. Just having the bucks doesn’t guarantee the love. What Mittens cannot do — just like Dole and McCain — is generate excitement in the base. If we do end up with Mittens as the nominee, we’re screwed, blewed and tattooed.

Newt, OTOH, generates sparks. You either love him or you hate him (heck, sometimes both) but it’s very hard to be apathetic about him. If he catches the imagination of the base — and he’s starting to — he’ll go the entire distance.

As for the Bamster, he was so pissy-pants frightened of making the Mullah’s angry he let them keep a top-secret, humungously expensive stealth reconnoissance drone rather than attempt to recover it or destroy it in place. You think he’s going to get into a pissing contest with Iran in the run up to the election — with both China and Russia watching and making ominous statements about “grave concern”?

Yes, Newt is brimming with testosterone. In which election since 1980 did the candidate who appeared to have the most testosterone lose the election? Badasses win elections, plain and simple. Some of these badasses were only badass relative to the extreme wimpiness of the other candidate, but the point holds.

Obama/McCain
Bush/Kerry
Bush/Gore
Clinton/Dole
Clinton/Bush/Perot
Bush/Dukakis
Reagan/Mondale
Reagan/Carter

Y'know, I think Palin had the fire in her belly. She would fill out a Red Sonja costume nicely. I don't think she really had a glass jaw, just an Achilles' heel (Katie Couric). Camille Paglia wrote a lot of good stuff at the time about how Palin had a frontierswoman toughness about her. She was the Mama Grizzly after all. I think she showed her teeth best in her convention speech, which got pretty rave reviews at the time. She had potential for a successful second run I think, if she had spent some time in the trenches preparing for it.
