Poll: Lugar may be in jeopardy
WISH TV ^ | November 4th

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The 2012 GOP primary between Sen. Richard Lugar and challenger Richard Mourdock is still more than six months away, but you can get a sense of what kind of battle it will be in this week's WISH-TV/Franklin College Poll.

Lugar has a big advantage in some areas. When it comes to name identification, more than nine out of 10 voters recognize him, while Richard Mourdock's name registers with only two-thirds of the voters.

Lugar also has a high favorability rating at 59 percent. Mourdock gets a positive response from just 17 percent.

Yet if you place Mourdock's name on the ballot next to his, Lugar fails to reach the 50 percent necessary to keep him in office. Lugar wins support from 49 percent of the Republicans surveyed. Mourdock is at 28 percent.

That 49 percent may be a sign of trouble for Lugar. (The poll has a sample of 228 likely Republican voters, with a margin of error of 6.2 percent.)

Imperious Lugar should be the first to go.

Most of those types were conservative to moderately so when they first arrived in DC... once they’ve gotten into their second or third term, they meld with the political machinery. Probably the best argument for term limits. There’s only one reason for going to DC and never leaving, to line your pockets, and those who sent you, with other people’s money.

We can only hope Lugar is in trouble. Decades ago, he made a good name for himself in Indiana. Lately, he’s just another part of the problem. As most FReepers know, we will never have change in D.C. if we don’t have change in the people who we send there. Even if Lugar was once a decent conservative, he’s not any longer and no one should stay in D.C. this long. Over time, even the best person will end up compromised. In other words, one cannot spend decades in D.C., insulated by the power and wealth that brings, and remain what they once were. That’s why we need turnover, and Lugar is an excellent opportunity for just that!

Finally, what better way to get the RINOs to wake up than to retire some of them? Our senators and representatives (and black robed judicial tyrants) need to taste a bit of their own blood in elections (or at impeachment hearings) before they start to straighten up. They think they are elected for life and can do whatever they please, and that’s historically true! They do that because they mostly have been untouchable, doing just enough in the election seasons to sucker us in again and again. The only way to change that is to kick the bums out!

It’s long past time for Senator Lugar to go, IMHO. The guy was first elected to the Senate in 1976. He’s still there in 2011. You cannot be part of the Beltway for that long without, well, becoming part of the Beltway. Doesn’t matter who you are or what your politics are, the D.C. swamp will claim anyone after nearly 40 years.

Thank you for your support. Nothing shapes a politician into his proper roll of representing his constituents than a good challenger and the possibility of defeat.

Why stop at the RINO's? ALL Career Politicians need to be shown the door. It don't matter if there's an (R) or (D) before their name.

It's the CAREER POLITICIANS that got us into this mess, they cannot be left in charge in any way, shape or form of "fixing" the problem.

Out they should go this November, every last one of 'em.

I would like to point out that McCain had a challenger for his last election. It didn’t seem to make much of an impression on him after he was reelected, although I will admit that he did act “conservative” while he was running.
