December 25, 2011, LAGOS, Nigeria Terror attacks across Nigeria by a radical Muslim sect killed at least 39 people Sunday, with the majority dying on the steps of a Catholic church after celebrating Christmas Mass as blood pooled in dust from a massive explosion.
Authorities acknowledged they could not bring enough emergency medical personnel to care for the wounded outside St. Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla near Nigeria's capital. Elsewhere, a bomb exploded amid gunfire in the central Nigeria city of Jos and a suicide car bomber attacked the military in the nation's northeast as part of an apparently coordinated assault by the sect known as Boko Haram.
The Christmas Day violence, denounced by world leaders and the Vatican, shows the threat of the widening insurrection posed by Boko Haram against Nigeria's weak central government. Despite a recent paramilitary crackdown against the sect in the oil-rich nation, it appears that Africa's most populous nation remains unable to stop the threat.
"These are cowardly attacks on families gathered in peace and prayer to celebrate a day which symbolises harmony and goodwill towards others," Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement.

Sect? Those darn Amish again!
The Obama administration calls them crimes
The group, whose name means “Western education is sacrilege” in the local Hausa language, is responsible for at least 504 killings this year alone, according to an Associated Press count.
The ACLU is pleased.
Merry Christmas
Those of Islam should understand that this is true martyrdom. Not killing yourself murdering for allah and his prophet, but being murdered because you love and serve Jesus and your fellow man.
Of the two, one goes to paradise where they are in God’s presence, comforted and loved for all eternity. The other, not so much.
Once again we are shown the barbaric ways of Islam and here at home we here at home are being lulled to sleep by some damn tv show.
Spot on, and I may add our bastard D’rats in Congress, ACLU and Hollywood. Even as we speak, thousands of Islamacists are lining up in embassies abroad for visas for themselves and their families. Ron Paul, Iowans, wake up!
With the kind of hatred spewed against Catholics by some people here on FR, one has to wonder if we may see this kind of thing eventually make its way to America.
ROP indeed.
We prayed in church today for these and other Christians the world over who do not have the freedom and “safety” we do to worship openly Jesus Christ as we do. Imagine each day you are at a church building for a worship activity knowing your day to meet Jesus Christ might happen any minute. Compelling...especially when there is so much gaga over material gadgets.
...and the greatest of these is love!
When is the last time you remember seeing any Islamic adherents attacked and killed by Christians out front of their churches?
Don’t jump to conclusions folks. This was unexpected.
Obviously that should have been mosques... ya dingo.
They just may get the message if a few mosques are blown up in the West.
Actually, that would merely give the Left in the West the opportunity to state there were terrorist Christians too.
I can certainly identify with where you’re coming from though.
The ROP does not understand defeat.
Christians please get out of Nigeria before you are all dead.
God rest their souls, and may the perpetual light shine upon them. We already have the Ugandan Martyrs — now we have the Nigerian martyrs.
