But dozens froze? The plan to make people passive is working well.

Two generations of “call 9-1-1” and fear of lawsuits has made people hesitant.

Big HURRAH for the kid that took action.

Crappy reporting. Does this journalist realize that he/she did not tell what the student actually did?

Romantic rivalry perhaps.

Ricketts spent the night in jail after being arraigned on first degree attempted assault, second degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

First Degree Attempted Assault?

I really have to wonder about the intelligence of the modern legal system sometimes.

“I really have to wonder about the intelligence of the modern legal system sometimes.”

When the lawyers make the laws, the laws become all about generating wealth for the lawyers. The huge expense of justice was one the reasons we had a revolution.

“But dozens froze..”

I can only imagine if I was a high school student that saw two TEACHERS fighting... I might freeze as well. Good job to the young man who stepped in. It sounds like he may have literally saved a life.

Yes, he probably did save the teacher’s life. Very good for him, and that he was able to use the football skills he’d learned to get the weapon out of the attacker’s hand. Quick thinking and quick action on his part.

Ms. Ricketts appears to be someone who got stiffed at the Air Jordan free-for-all. It was nice to see, in the news video, that the court room at her arraignment was packed with well-wishing, student yoots.

I can understand plea bargaining down the charge from attempted murder to felonious assault but this woman hasn’t even been before a grand jury yet.

Don’t they usually file the most drastic charges possible to scare the perp in to pleading to a lesser charge?

This must have been a green assistant DA who was just filling the spot solo for the first time while everyone else was home for the holidays.

“Principal Edgar Glascott said students, teachers and faculty are all in shock as both teachers are extremely well liked. Ricketts’ defense attorney said students packed the courtroom this morning to show their support of her. Sources tell PIX 11 Ricketts feared she was about to be fired.

While Principal Glascott confirmed he had heard of Ricketts’ fears, they were unfounded. “

She was afraid she was going to lose her job? What does she think is going to happen now? Or, will the union fight for her rights?

I’m thinking high school football players may be more use to “scuffles” and putting themselves into a situation where violence is present. Centuries ago when I was in high school, a female teacher set up a fake scenario where a student “got out of control and appeared as if he was going to hit her”. It was part of a psychology class and it was suppose to be the lead up to a discussion about when people intervene. Long story short, the only two students who intervened and grabbed the male student were two football players. Hmmm?

Unions usually support the employee when they appeal job actions like dismissals, not criminal charges. If the employee has legal coverage through a union sponsored insurance program her coverage can come from that, otherwise she hires a defense attorney.

If she is not found guilty, she could come back to the union and appeal for her job, but the district can fire her even though she was found not guilty in court. Different standard of evidence.

..or a very smart DA who didn't want to be accused of racism.

Or, will the union fight for her rights?

Yes.

After doing "community service" for her temporary lapse in judgement, she will be promoted to a higher paying, less stressful job. Very likely, she will be the principal's boss.
