For those coming in late, let me summarize*: both Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry have been excluded from the Virginia Republican primary by the Virginia GOP. This has placed the VA GOP in an awkward situation, given that: they have excluded the current national and Virginian front-runner from their own ballot; have currently no write-in option on the ballot; do have an open primary that anyone can vote in; and generally have created an environment peculiarly suited for conspiracy theories involving Mitt Romney (and ones that wont contain the word Mormon anywhere in their description, by the way). The current defenses to all of this are rules are rules and any campaign that couldnt follow them are by definition poor campaigns: I will leave it to the individual reader to decide just how either argument will play in, say, Peoria; I am frankly of the opinion that the above defenses are well-suited towards reassuring Romney and/or Paul voters and will do very little to persuade the other 60-65% or so of likely Republican primary voters.
But since Im telling Mitt Romney what wont help his situation, it kind of behooves me to tell him what might.

Let’s give little Eddie an A because he tried reaally hard, never mind that he didn’t bother to read and understand the rules. Quit making excuses for incompetence. Your liberalism is showing.

The ones using emotional hyperbole here, are the ones who are defending the Virginia process, which is clearly favoring Romney and is also a serious conflict of interest.
You are selectively avoiding the fundamentals of what we are trying to say, which is ignoring the obvious flaws in the rules that will cause us to lose this election to Romney.
You are a fundamentalist. And countless wars, Totalitarian Rule and atrocities have occurred through out history, based on that obsession alone. But what you are saying most, is NEVER question the rules or the details of such.
In short, you are enabling and promoting the very thing that would guarantee our slavery to the Totalitarian/Fascist State.
2 million would have bypassed the rule of checking each an everyone remember 15,000 sigs aren’t even checked. Ron Paul didn’t even have 15,000 he had 14,800 but was still certified.
>> Things change when you have candidates who are disorganized and poorly funded that they cant comply with the rules.
It was not a problem in 2008.>>
There you go: admission that you are holding being “poorly funded” against a candidate. So, only the folks who raise money early so they can go pay drones to get signatures collected is an important test to you huh?
Mark Kabar down: one enthusiastic YES vote for the richest candidates only.

I only enlarged it from a somewhat smaller photo and added the frame and posted it on a GREEN table bgcolor
The internals of that image show no edits of compositing or blending of the photograph
Both sides scrub images and info from the internet - It is important to grab and upload them as they always seem to deny them or say “I have changed and matured”
Wait until 2013 and see what lovely hidden hand grenades are waiting for American citizens
Also recall that several years ago on a FR poll - that Hillary got 15% of the votes for their choice for President
Back some years a radical using the name ‘Moby’ encouraged far-left sleepers to sign up and divert and disrupt on Free Republic
Anyone thinking they really can actually trust anyone posting on internet site threads needs to grow up
Even Hillary Clinton became the enemy on DU when Obama’s thugs got revved up
“...but verify...” - President Ronald Reagan
I did not say “trust”
.
It's those who serve in the US military. I hope you do not think they are military are dyed-in-the-wool whackjobs?
Here just in case you do not believe me.
Great post! (But they are totally fixated on their legalistic/fundamental little philosophy) They won’t hear a word you said and they will come back with a claim that you are “attacking” again.
This is the equivalent of Ohio saying to get on the general election ballot all candidates must pay a $10,000 fee before August 10th...
then the day after the deadline... announcing that the Republican candidate for president wont be on the ballot in Ohio because $1 of the $10,000 they paid was determined to be counterfeit by the Obama Ohio campaign chairman who examined the bills in private.
Apparently you can't deal with reality and thus wish to live in La LA Land. Getting the required amount of Signatures isn't as hard as it sounds it just takes boots on the ground. Apparently Newt failed to get enough boots on the ground in Virginia. If you wish to implement a new system for qualification for Candidacy be my guest but you need to get it done PRIOR to the Primary Election process not whine about it after the fact.

What a childish and totally intellectually vapid response that was. This has nothing to do with my understanding of the rules or complying with anything. This has to do with YOUR slavish devotion to the rules regardless of how stupid they are.
You are proving that all rules and laws should be accepted simply because they pre exist. So, by your logic, and logic is a term I use loosely with your argument, we shouldn’t even have this forum because hell, all the rules and laws exist and we should blindly follow them.
Only a liberal would favor an outdated useless bureaucratic exercise to support the existing power structure over an opportunity based option.
Here is another more recent article from USA Today this past Summer.
It appears that old pros Romney and Paul were savvy enough to submit 15000 signatures so as to avoid sctruting, while Gingrich and Perry were naive enough not to discern the dynamic of the rules. Apperently, if they had each simply forged another 4000 signatures each they would be in without scrutiny.
It is a legalistic mentality. It is a fundamentalist mentality. Its the very mentality that ticked Jesus off about the Pharisee’s more than any other trait - a hypocritical legalism.
And by their logic, since a rule is written, it is the rule period. God forbid anyone ever challenge it. They have no logic. It is defeatist and totally illogical and unfit for men who claim to want to be free. It is totally counter to freedom. It makes us all prisoners to all rules all the time.
The Paul Campaign has a Pie graph for you.

The rules for the 2012 election have been in place for months, if not years. Stop making excuses for candidates who didn’t bother knowing the rules because they never expected to make it past Iowa. If you want to change the rules for the next go round, fine. But your incessant whining, merely because it is your candidate that proved to be the F up, is the epitome of fuzzy headed liberalism.
>> Well you can choose not to follow the rules in play and see how far that gets you. >>
I would have been with the Continental Army.
You would have been with King George.
How far would that have gotten you?
Apparently other states limit access just fine by charging a 1000 bucks. Not too many are willing to waste a 1000 bucks just for the notoriety of being proven stupid in public.
As one legal firm has pointed out, though, the VA law, due to some having signatures reviewed and some not, probably denies equal protection, and that contrary to Bush v Gore.
RUN Paul supporter........Got it.

You are the epitome of fuzzy headed intellectual bankruptcy. I am not making excuses for any of the five candidates who did not make this false cut. I am pointing out that it was an arbitrary and outdated rule and it is set up to protect certain classes of politicians. It is set up to protect well connected ,well funded, long time candiates and is a much bigger burden on new comers, late comers and late bloomers.
It is what it is. I think any rule that protects the well connected and well funded and life long political class at the exclusion of all others is a rule that damned well needs to be overturned.
You think a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule.
I think my position is far more conservative and more creative and open minded and intellectually defensible. I think yours is closes minded and legalistic and bureaucratic.
