Apparently other states limit access just fine by charging a 1000 bucks. Not too many are willing to waste a 1000 bucks just for the notoriety of being proven stupid in public.
As one legal firm has pointed out, though, the VA law, due to some having signatures reviewed and some not, probably denies equal protection, and that contrary to Bush v Gore.

I guess the rules would have been ok if certain candidates had been able to get on the ballot. Now you are suggesting the VA has unfair election laws. The fact is that the law was applied uniformly to all candidates regardless of party affiliation. Let those who didn’t make it file a legal challenge against the Commonwealth.
