(Madison, WI) – In 2011, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker(R) served as the embodiment of the state by state battle to balance budgets and the best symbol of the struggle between the two political parties about how best to meet those fiscal challenges. His first year will extend well into his second year, quite likely culminating in a recall election to remove him from office.
He has dominated the political debate on both sides. Defining the issues. He is cited by both Democrats and Republicans as the best of example of what is wrong, or what is right with a conservative approach to government. Although they will never admit it, many Democratic governors are different from Walker only in a matter of degrees.
Nearly every governor, regardless of party, began the year saying the current path of expensive pension and benefit packages for public employees is unsustainable. The way the issue exploded in Wisconsin is as much a function of the legal and legislative tools at Walker’s disposal as it is about the specific route he chose to take.
This is why Governors Journal has selected Scott Walker as the 2011 Governor of the Year.

My family vacationed there this summer. Someone hacked the computer system at the resort and all of our credit card numbers were stolen. If that news got around, it may have affected tourism. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if some lib did it for that reason.
I am so proud of our Governor! So happy to live in one of the states that actually has TRUE hope, and is actively fighting against the liberals in our schools, and our public unions whose games we are absolutely DONE with... They may be a vocal, annoying, and disgusting group, but for all their strutting they only do so because most of us here are looking at them like the fools they really are.
In which industries do you mean - there are different reasons for it in some cases? Tourism, for example, many tourists come up here from Illinois, and Illinois is so screwed right now with their economy people can’t AFFORD to come up here for vacation as much at all. Manufacturing, for example, is dealing with shortages of orders from places not affected by our local, or state economies. The other economies are depressed so it makes it much harder to keep the work coming in, so that employees actually have work to do, and companies have actual funds to pay their employees with.
Also, there are always going to be smaller companies in an economy that fail - especially ones who may get most of their business from outside of the state (like manufacturers). If the work isn’t coming in there are no jobs to do, no matter what a government does - not if other places are hurting so badly...
I think overall we are definitely on the right track - even though we need to work on local pockets, and statewide influence of unions and such. With what kind of a deck has been stacked against the Governor, I think he, and the rest of our Republican representatives in Madison have done a very good job. Of course, if not for the PEOPLE who recognize thugs, and stupid bullies, and “intellectuals” trying to condescend to the rest of us about how to make our state prosperous, we wouldn’t stand a chance. That’s exactly why the recall WILL fail - barring some incredibly brazen vote fraud (which wouldn’t surprise me with the GAB being a mini-arm of the WI Dems & Unions - look at the signature processes.).

No. The problem there in another 8 years we will be a dead country by than with a RINO POTUS who loves the communist way of life for us.

Governor Walker rocks, and is a far better choice for Governor of the Year than TIME mag’s “Person of the Year.”

Brewer signed a small tax hike.
Not saying she’s not swell overall but that was a bad move.
He still has work to do in WI but he should have tossed his hat in the ring. He’d be the frontrunner right now.
There are some very SOLID POTUS choices from the pool of GOP governors for 2016/2020:
1. Scott Walker (WI)
2. Bob McDonnell (VA)
3. Bobby Jindal (LA)
4. Rick Perry (TX)
5. Chris Christie (NJ)
With honorable mentions to Jan Brewer (AZ), Butch Otter (ID), and maybe Nikki Haley (SC). Tom Corbett (PA), Rick Snyder (MI) and John Kaisich (OH) are doing ok with hopelessly union-heavy states. I’ve alwasys liked Sam Brownback (KS), but his immigration position isn’t even close to mainstream, and Haley Barbour (LA) said he doesn’t want to be POTUS.
GOD how I wish we could borrow him for a while here in the People’s Republic of Illinois. This stinking Rat infested state is probably too far gone to matter, though.
