PHOENIX (KPHO) -
Sheriff Joe Arpaio had his first run-in with a group of suspected illegal immigrants since things heated up with the Department of Justice.
The Department of Justice recently revoked his deputies' ability to check immigration status inside Maricopa County jails.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Lt. Justin Griffin says they pulled over a vehicle and have eight people in their custody for human smuggling at 35th Avenue and Durango.
Griffin says they attempted to give four of the detainees to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but MCSO says ICE is refusing to take them.
Griffin says, "We asked ICE, 'If we were DPS, would you take them from us?' And we were told specifically, 'Yes.'"
Stay with KPHO.com and CBS 5 for more on this developing story.
I believe that was July of 2010 in El Paso
Long before he decided to run for President.
“They are undermining the rule of law.”
I agree, and find it disturbing that it is done so publicly; the government fears no reaction from the citizenry.
Does it make you mad?
I am mad as hell!
The feds have the states bought and paid for. Remember what happened in Georgia when they were considering a bill to require Presidential eligibility to be proven before a name could be on the ballot: the law-makers in areas that wanted federal funds for a certain project all backed out of their support for the bill within a single day.
Three guesses as to why that was, and the first 2 don’t count.
Rush has talked about the stimulus and TARP being slush funds. Pretty much everything the feds do for the states is slush money. Scratch each other’s backs and everybody will be fine. Make waves, and the feds will get their payback.
The checks and balances within the federal government are all long gone. And the natural checks between state and federal government are also all long gone because the feds have the money and unlimited power (because the courts allow it).
“I am not talking vigilantes, I am just talking local autonomy.”
I agree with you, but don’t you see the dilemna my example poses? That really happened! I assure you, southern California is NOT going to close the border; it would simply be a gateway for Mexico to enter the other 49 states.
It does; besides voting I’m not sure what I can do (and here in northern NJ we’re SWARMING with illegal aliens).
I was hoping that somebody who has already done that could help me out with it. If Perry wants my vote he needs to help me out on why I should vote for him, and the illegal immigration issue is what is killing him among conservatives so if he has a good response he really needs to be giving it right now.
Lets just get Gingrich into the WH. I would love it.
What I find disturbing is not only do they do it openly, but we have people on this board that are attacking the man who first said anything about it!
They would have you believe that Perry was the man behind all this border wreck.
Newt promotes Amnesty during a debate and Perry is the ‘Open Borders Guy”
Feh!
Hopefully, Arpaio has the last laugh.
He’s got at least three months worth of investigative material on Obama.
You’re right; I’ve been following this since Buchanan was the only one talking/writing about it, and he’s been marginalized a la Sarah Palin by the same enemies of our republic.
Lock and load..these people are looking for a revolution.
It's a sick joke! Look at his record!
SIGN THE PETITION: Stand With Sheriff Joe & Against Obama’s Political Witchhunt
PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION at the link below to show you Stand With Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and AGAINST the political witchhunt of Obama’s Department of Justice. This Administration and its open-borders allies La Raza, MALDEF and the ACLU, will stop at nothing to try and destroy the most prominent national symbol in the fight against illegal immigration. Sheriff Joe will not back down. Please sign the petition to show we stand behind him.
Why has he backed down? See, I think when somebody runs for President they think they have to be likeable to the media. So they adjust their style or focus in order to match what they think is needed to get elected. That tells us who they are willing to answer to.
By now Perry has had a chance to realize that the media is going to attack him regardless of what he does to try to be liked. At this point he knows he needs to appeal directly to the people. I’m close enough to Iowa that I hear some of his ads, and they make good points. The one sticking point that got him in trouble with conservatives was the illegal immigration issue, and I don’t think he can get anywhere with conservatives until he addresses why he said some things and why somebody like Arpaio would endorse him.
Supposedly So Cal has shut the border, but they have more illegals than any state in the nation and they are going broke for all the good their fence has done.
He never backed down! He is one of the few that have STEPPED UP! Like Joe Arpaio.
Was it not Strauss' handpicked Texas State Affairs committee members who didn't show up for a vote at Strauss' "suggestion", so there wasn't a quorum?
If you are near Iowa you know nothing of the border.
