AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ESPN college football analyst Craig James, who starred as a tailback at Southern Methodist University and with the New England Patriots in the 1980s, announced Monday he was running for the U.S. Senate as a Republican from Texas, a GOP fundraiser said.
Republican fundraiser and close friend Roy Bailey told The Associated Press on Monday that James informed him he was running for the 2012 Senate seat and was in the process of dropping off his official candidate papers in Austin.

I doubt if he will do well in the Texas panhandle area. James was instrumental in causing the firing of Texas Tech head football coach Mike Leach, who had the most wins in school history. James complained to the school that Leach had mistreated his son after he suffered a concussion. Leach has sued both Texas Tech and James. Leach was fired a day or two before he was to receive a $800,000 performance bonus from TT. He has also sued sued ESPN and a Dallas PR firm, accusing them of libel and slander after he was fired. The lawsuit against Tech and James is pending in the Texas Supreme Court.

Don’t know that much about the whole TT controversy, but I’d sure vote for him over some dim. We MUST take the Senate in 2012.

If elected The Pony will take quite a pay cut. Then again... it’s the US Senate so he should do just fine.

The way he handled his kid is the way he’ll handle the Senate. He’s privileged and he deserves special treatment... like getting the money he deserved at SMU, like whining about how his little precious wasn’t treated well and getting a head coach fired.... he seems like a douche tard that believes his own press clippings.

For those who want more info, do a keyword search on Craig James and Mike Leach (keywords at bottom of the posted article).
Apparently James made comments about his possibly seeking the US Senate seat way back in January 2010 during the outcry about his involvement with the Leach firing; check out this thread and the comments on it:
