Holder Speaks Up for Voting Rights
New York Times ^ | December 15, 2011 | NYT Editorial

Posted on 12/15/2011 5:21:30 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

For months, the Justice Department has largely been silent as Republican-dominated legislatures in state after state made it harder for minorities, poor people and other Democratic-leaning groups to vote. On Tuesday, however, Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. spoke out forcefully and promised to use the full weight of his department to ensure that new electoral laws are not discriminatory. To live up to that vow, he will have his hands full.

Republican lawmakers in more than a dozen states have recently enacted laws designed to limit Americans’ access to the polls, often concentrating on voters — blacks, Hispanics, students and the poor — who showed up in large numbers in 2008 to elect Barack Obama. They have imposed strict voter-ID requirements, knowing that millions of people cannot easily meet them; eliminated early voting periods; and restricted registration drives. (Voter ID laws have been introduced in at least 34 states.)

These efforts, Mr. Holder said, have led many Americans “to believe that we are failing to live up to one of our nation’s most noble, and essential, ideals.” Quoting John Lewis, the Georgia congressman who was beaten in the 1960s while advocating voting rights for blacks, he said those rights are under attack by “a deliberate and systematic attempt” to prevent millions of voters from exercising their constitutional right to engage in democracy.

It was very encouraging to hear Mr. Holder recognize the depth of the assault on a fundamental constitutional right. The question is how far he will use his department’s power to stop it. On that subject, he was a little vague, promising to use his power...

This sheet was handed out at the polls during the last Texas election.

How hard is this to comply with?

Yet Texas' new Photo Voter ID Bill sits on Eric Holder's desk in Washington D.C. awaiting his blessing.

Holder’s belief in voting rights, includes black panther thugs intimidating voters at the polls with clubs.

” made it harder for minorities, poor people and other Democratic-leaning groups to vote.”

Apparently people perfectly capable of having a photo ID to get their damn foodstamps, but too damn stupid according to the NYT of having one to go vote to ensure their is no fraud.

The slimes covering Holder’s butt for him. Speaking up for voters rights my a**. He is trying to suppress the states rights to enact their own voting eligibility laws. ID requirements do not keep anyone from voting, except, of course, those who wish to commit fraud.

Holder's vision is four voters passing through a polling place in St. Louis and recording 33 votes. That's how they elected Claire McCackle.

Millions???? So far, they have found one beligerant old lady in Milwaukee who was too lazy to request a certified copy of her birth-certificate so she could get an ID.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder flew to Texas to make his case (and speech) in Gov. Rick Perry's backyard -- Austin, Texas.

“Republican lawmakers in more than a dozen states have recently enacted laws designed to limit Americans’ access to the polls,’

Times speak which means they are trying to allow only legally qualified voters access.

If you don’t have to show id to vote, why do you have to show id to get a gun? You may also get a quick background check on that.

The justification would be felons can’t have guns, so they need to see if you are one.

However, in voting, non-citizens can’t vote, so they should be able to check if they too are such.

“He is trying to suppress the states rights to enact their own voting eligibility laws.”

Yeah, there’s that along with the fact that he is trying to suppress my right to have my vote matter. Every illegal vote cast for a Democrat nullifies the “LEGAL” vote for a Republican.

Holder, Obama, the DNC, ACLU and NAACP are trying to deny Republican voters their right to free, fair, honest, open and legitimate elections.

They are violating my right to vote. They should all be thrown in prison for election tampering and fraud.

I guess I just am not smart enough to figure out what the problem is.... we just had an election here in november ( the teachers union wanted a tax increase, we shot it down ) but I walked into the polling place, filled out a little form, handed it to the poll person, who then asked for my ID... I showed it, she gave me a ballot and I cast my vote....took about all of 30 seconds.... now, what i cannot figure out is how this is supressing my vote???

The Democrats already lost this at the Supreme Court. This is all political street theatre used to further delude the ignorant masses of drones who vote for Democrats.
