That is one thing I won’t miss at all next year after I retire. The AM commute is not bad since we start at 0630, but the PM commute is a bear.

Mid-day Wintery greetings from sunny Arizona! This snowfall picture is along Interstate 17 just south of Flagstaff.
The snow level down here in Sierra Vista was at about 6500' overnight so we have snow-capped mountains all around us. It is clear and cold, a perfect day for tomato soup and grilled cheese sammiches!

There is a great shot of the Na Pali Coast at the end of “The Descendants”.

The carpet laying went well - I was not here for the installation but the results look great. I would call the carpet shade taupe. We had a laminate faux-wood floor down which was not holding up well. Mrs. MacNessa and the boys took that floor up and, with the pieces that are still in good shape, are flooring the upstairs hallway and the boys' bedrooms. Wth the walls on the first floor having been painted, the look of the place is entirely different. We're getting new kitchen counter tops before Christmas, and will lay a floating vinyl floor in the kitchen a couple of months down the road.

“”went to see the movie The Descendents”

Well, we just returned from The Descendents. I had no idea it would be such a downer film.
I realize that every drama needs conflict, and while the film was superbly acted and shot with beautiful scenery, the message was without hope. I would not recommend it for anyone who thinks a film about people in Hawaii will be uplifting or exciting.
The film ends with what the writers probably thought was a uplifting message about family unity. I took it as an insult — the family in the last scene is watching a stupid television documentary, staring into the screen, just like all of us in the audience were doing, staring at a screen instead of having a life of real relationships.
More: to me the film lacked any kind of spiritual theme of redemption.
A serious flaw in the story was that there was no one with faith. No reference to faith or a possible salvation. Not even Hawaiian pagan faith. Shakespeare’s tragic characters usually are visited by ghosts, people with magical powers,or have dreams that suggest a meaningful transcendence exists beyond human suffering. Here there is spiritual silence.
The Descendents is a message of pure humanism against existential meaninglessness and destruction of life. For me the message rings hollow. Saving the planet doesn’t cut it when it comes to guilt, family breakdown, divorce, trashing of vulnerable children, substance abuse, infidelity, death and euthanasia. Not exactly a film for holiday cheer.

Bermuda sounds nice. kalee. I like doing nothing unless I want to on vacation. Sitting at the beach and snorkling suits me fine.
