Bill would ban guns from gas stations (Wisconsin)

Just as thousands of Wisconsin residents are starting to use their new permits to carry concealed weapons, a Milwaukee lawmaker has proposed making gas stations off limits.

Assembly Bill 406's sponsor, Rep. Josh Zepnick, (D-Milwaukee), said many station owners, employees and customers are among his constituents and have suffered ongoing violent crime at and around the businesses.

"This is a serious pattern of crime that has escalated, presumably due to tough economic times and the 'ease' of getting in/out of a gas station for criminal activity," Zepnick said in an email. He noted that he has attended the funerals of two gas station workers murdered on the job.

He knows it will be a long shot for passage in a Republican-controlled Legislature that's shown more interest in expanding gun rights that adding restrictions to new carry rules.

"In short, this is a work in progress," he said. " Isolating one form of business for certain protection is not easy from a Legislation standpoint all I can do is keep trying."

Considering how many people use gas stations, this is a backdoor attempt to ban guns.

We certainly can’t have folks capable of defending themselves, now can we?

He wants to ban law abiding citizens from carrying firearms in high crime areas? Hello! The crime rate went up before CCW came into effect.

What a freaking genius! I wish I had thought of this. I'm sure people who are inclined to rob gas stations will give up their plans just as soon as guns are banned from the area around gas stations.

This is so freaking brilliant, they should extend it to liquor stores as well. It worked like a charm at Virginia Tech, didn't it?

Sure is. If they keep this up the only place people will be allowed to carry a gun is in their own home. Then they'll come up with a law saying if there are children under 5, no guns allowed in the home. Bit by bit by bit, the erosion of rights continues.

Only in Milwaukee and Madistan. Tell me if you can, the number of CCW permit holders that are going to rob the place and then, tell me the number of NON-permit holders that might rob the place.

Democrats are indeed, stuck on stupid.

There is the State of Wisconsin, and there is the State of Milwaukee, an entity that sincerely believes the enacted laws of the State of Wisconsin bear no weight in Milwaukee.

I saw a funny bumper sticker the other day at my local Shop'N'Save:

People who claim guns kill people
should blame spoons for making Rosie O'Donnell fat.

Yeah but look at the bloodbath that occurred after Ohio began letting CCW holders carry in restaurants and bars. /SAR

Yes, this will be a very effective deterrent for the armedcriminals who go to a gas station with the express purpose of robbing the place. Can’t you just see it now?

“Wow, man. I can deal with the armed robbery charges and stuff, but I don’t want to get in trouble for bringing a gun on to gas station property!”

*rolls eyes*

I suspect this legislator is smarter than he appears, however. Likely he’s not submitting this bill in any hopes of actually getting it into law. It’s more likely this is to sell it to his constituents. “See? SEE? I tried, I really did! But those big meany Republicans don’t want you to be safe!”

AND, WE HAVE A WINNER.

Once again we have a politician (ex-lawyer?) prove that the Peter Principle is alive and well.

If existing laws resulted in him attending funerals etc why does he think that his law will make a difference? The only difference between existing failed laws and his proposed law is, in the final analysis, his name.
