A woman in Australia who was pregnant with twins decided to have one of her babies aborted after doctors discovered that he had a life-threatening congenital heart defect. The seriously disturbing part? The doctors aborted the wrong fetus, terminating a perfectly healthy child.
After doctors realized the "blunder," the woman, who was 32 weeks pregnant, had to undergo an emergency cesarean to deliver the sick fetus, where it was later terminated. The Royal Women's Hospital confirmed the incident and referred to it as a "terrible tragedy." Um, yeah ... one could say that.
I honestly really don't even know what to say about this. It's one of those occurrences that's so terrible and heart-breaking and unreal-seeming that it leaves me sort of confused. I can't imagine -- literally -- what it would be like to go through something so gut-wrenching. The decision to terminate the one twin had to be taxing and grueling enough for this woman. To then have both of the twins terminated -- because of a hospital's mistake? I can't. I wish there was something I -- or anyone -- could do for this poor lady. But I know there's not.
“where it was later terminated.”
Correction that should be “murdered”. This is the most sickening thing I have ever heard!!! Two innocent lives destroyed needlessly.
32 weeks is 8 months to anyone not trying to hide the fact that they killed two children who would have surived birth under any other conditions.
If the woman was willing to kill her sick infant, then why would she be upset over the wrong one being killed? I don’t see where this would be a big deal from her standpoint. From my standpoint, I hope God was giving her a message...
So the baby was delivered and then they murdered it, right? How awful...
"Terminate" is such an antiseptic word.
That’s exactly what happened. Disgusting. As for my remark about God giving her a message, it really doesn’t matter because He will do so at the appropriate moment.
I’m having a hard time grasping that the sick infant was supposed to be pulled from the womb and killed because it was going to die. If nature had taken it’s course, at least the healthy twin would have survived. The family had to agree to this madness.
Agreed. Sickening. “Later terminated” means the baby was born, and after being born, someone killed him or her. So how long is too long to wait to “terminate” a fetus after birth? One hour, two hours, 30 years?
Can someone explain to me what is the different between “terminating” a disabled infant, and Hitler liquidating mentally disabled or otherwise handicapped people?
Clearly, the mother-not-to-be is not the only one whose moral compass has gone totally haywire.
Both children were the wrong one to abort.
This headline implies that it’s horrible that the one kid was aborted, but if the other had been, it would have been ok. It’s not really a horrible mistake. With the “mistake” or not, one child would have been aborted. It was a horrible choice to abort one child in the first place.
“Can someone explain to me what is the different between terminating a disabled infant, and Hitler liquidating mentally disabled or otherwise handicapped people?”
If another hitler came on the scene, I’m not sure there would be the will to stop him or if many would even see a problem with what he did. That’s how far we’ve gone.
That’s the way I see this, too.
Hitler was right-wing /sarc.
In all seriousness, if Hitler only liquidated the mentally disabled or otherwise handicapped people and had not sent the Communists to the concentration camps, he would still be a darling of America's left wing.
This is why if you bring up the Nazis in moral discussions you "automatically lose" -- because the comparison is often too near the mark for the post-modern world to bear seeing.
Next time you hear someone repeat that stupid internet meme, the question should be:
What is your approach to the Holocaust? Never Forget so that its evils may not be repeated? Or ignore it and mock those to bring it up, try to whitewash it from history?
I don’t mean for it to sound like I’m defending the mother, or excusing what she allowed to happen, but there is a horrible history with ob/gyns of pressuring women in to doing something they wouldn’t normally think of doing. A woman that wants the baby she is carrying will do anything to help ensure that her baby is healthy. And when we go to the doctor, they’re supposed to be the expert, the one that tells us what we need to do to have a successful pregnancy and delivery. In some instances will drop us from their care for *not* doing what they tell us to. Unfortunately there are doctors like this one that use their influence and end up with these results when naive women think the doctor is always right.
This is so disgusting. Delivered and then terminated. Why don’t they just say liquidated so they could be more like the Nazis. Pure evil.
An OBGYN told my mom that she should have aborted my younger brother for something that never happened. My very-strong willed mom said she kicked him out of the room and switched doctors.
No. No one can.
Aktion T4.
