Gingrich: I’ll make John Bolton Secretary of State
Hot Air ^ | 12/7/11 | Allahpundit

Via Mediaite, how much redder could this red meat be? The answer is none. None more red.

Who cares if it’s kinda sorta illegal to promise appointments as a candidate? Bolton’s a rock star among righty hawks and Newt knows it only too well. Dude, I think he might have just sealed the deal. Just one question: Would a Secretary of State Bolton get confirmed by the Senate? Granted, the GOP will probably have control next year, but the Democrats fought Bolton’s UN appointment under Bush tooth and nail. Their base would go berserk if they didn’t filibuster. And they might not have to: If the GOP’s margin is 51/49, say, it’s possible the Dems would peel off Susan Collins and Murkowski and beat him straight up. Gingrich realizes that too, I’m sure (as does Bolton), which is why he’s comfortable making this promise. For a variety of reasons, it’s unlikely he’d have to follow through.

Gingrich Promise Breaks the Law

Unfortunately, naming individuals you would appoint to office before the election is apparently illegal. Here's Title 18, Part I, Chapter 29, Section 599 of the U.S. Code:

"Whoever, being a candidate, directly or indirectly promises or pledges the appointment, or the use of his influence or support for the appointment of any person to any public or private position or employment, for the purpose of procuring support in his candidacy shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."

Super truculent Bolton would be a terrible choice for anybody concerned with the long term strength and future of the USA. Unless the world is scheduled to end in 2015 or before, the American leadership must take to heart history's lessons and avoid the dangers of imperial overreach which destroyed world powers such as Spain and France. The US became the world's superpower in the first place by staying aloof and being the last power to enter general conflicts, not by trying to uphold the world single handedly and being to first to die and spend national treasure.

The money is drying up. Just as the USA needs to face facts concerning Social Security, we need to face facts about endless foreign adventures. National defense is a constitutional requirement, not world empire.

Newt didn't procur Bolton support for an appointment....this clause is to stop Quid pro quo

He broke no law....

Of course that will not matter to libtards

Concerning A West as VP:

QUOTE:

“Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich said at a Republican Palm Beach County fundraiser that if he won the Republican presidential nomination, he would strongly consider a Floridian as his running mate.

“Allen West would certainly be someone you’d look at,” Gingrich told NBC affiliate WPTV.

West responded, “We don’t know what the future holds, but I’m always willing to serve my country.”

“I have to pray about it and I have to clear it with my wife and two daughters,” he added. “I never thought that seven years ago when I retired here I’d be a United States Congressman.”

Elected in the November midterm election, West is one of two Republican African-Americans serving in Congress. He has rapidly emerged as a national conservative star.

West and Bolton doesn’t get any better than that. West with 8 years of executive experience as VP, A President I would be thrilled with.

Sarah Palin as head of the FCC for starters...

Dream of the possibilities...a "real" fairness doctrine, where all leftists must give equal time to conservatives.

I mis-read that. I would suggest (and thought you wrote)

*West as VP
Bolton as Sec State
*Paul(Ryan) head of the federal reserve
Palin energy secretary
Sherrif Joe head of ICE

WHY do we need Col West? Gingrich should appoint him with the advice and consent of the Senate to the office of The Secretary of Defense (SecDef).
