Gingrich fires back at Pelosi over threat
The Hill ^ | December 5, 2011 | Justin Sink

Newt Gingrich said that a threat from Nancy Pelosi to disclose information she learned while serving on an ethics committee investigating him during his time as Speaker of the House would "totally abuse the ethics process" and violate rules of the House of Representatives.

"I want to thank Speaker Pelosi for what I regard as an early Christmas gift," Gingrich said at a press conference in Manhattan Monday.

Gingrich denounced Pelosi's threat as "a fundamental violation of the rules of the House," and said that if Pelosi were to disclose details of the investigation, it would expose the "tainted ethics process the House was engaged in." He also called for the House to condemn Pelosi if she were to reveal anything from the ethics probe.

With Newt as the nominee, we won’t have to worry about a lack of response from our side.

One of the best kept secrets (kept by the press) about Nancy is that she is STOOPID. I was living in SF when she started her ascent to power, and she was just a rich Democrat matron doing what the leisured class had time to do...run for office.

She’s from Baltimore and her maiden name was D’Alessandro. She married into the San Francisco Italian aristocracy, and started her political career as an SF City Supervisor (their name for City Council member). SF, being crazy, went through a number of different configurations of this board, at times being by neighborhood, at times being at large, etc. Lots of strange people got elected then.

She was never smart and never effective, but she knew how to suck up to power. She got in with the Burtons (important SF Dem family) and rose through the ranks. But she remained dumb as a post, and the only thing she has ever known how to do was latch onto somebody powerful and be his attack dog.

Oddly enough, though, I don’t think she and Bambi get along very well. For one thing, he doesn’t like women, and while she may not be a model of femininity, she is female and I think Obama has a problem with that. His wife lives a very separate life and that’s obviously how they work it out.

Nancy’s still doing what got her to the top of the heap all those days ago in SF, but I don’t think she has a really good connection to power anymore and I think she’s making her own stab at it now...but since she’s dumb as a post, it’s probably going to collapse on her and crush her. Pity.

I don’t care if Pelosi has video of Newt doing her doggy style on top of Monica’s blew dress!

Me either, but for the love of all that is holy, please, don't make me WATCH it!

She couldve just leaked it and said nothing. Since she opened her big mouth with this threat, she gets blamed for any leaked info and could wind up in violation.
Haha...She really is dumb.

Pelosi is dumb indeed. I think she’s trying to impress somebody (Obama?) and she believed this bizarre “threat” would make him say, “Wow, the old girl’s got it still!”

She never ever had “it” to begin with and has always risen because of the influence of others and her willingness to lick their toes.

But she’s vicious, and naturally the first thing that would occur to her would be a personal attack...based on an investigation of some 20 years ago that couldn’t even find anything actionable?

Nancy should go back to CA and hang out with her grandchildren, except probably even they don’t want her around.

I have many reservations about Newt being the nominee.

But at least he fights back! I got so tired of Bush getting pummeled day after day, and he and his people just sitting there taking it.

Nancy “insider trading” Pelosi is accusing Newt of ethics violations?

She who lives in a glass house should not throw stones.

He’s absolutely right. Unfortunately, it sounds like he has something to hide, and is trying to make sure she doesn’t reveal information he doesn’t want us to know.

Having done so, the question will now be asked of him — what information is she talking about? And since he was the subject of the investigation, there are no ethical problems with him sharing the information.

So she won’t have to reveal it. Just by disclosing that there IS information, Gingrich will have to disclose it, or else the media will go into a frenzy about what he is hiding and why. They will even speculate, and if he denies it, there will be calls for him to release the ethics committee to reveal the reports to PROVE that he isn’t lying now.

This is how the game is played. Gingrich is absolutely right that the ethics reports should never be leaked. But he’s running for a public office, and some voters will feel they have a right to know what was in those reports — or else they will just not vote for him.

You would think that someone like Newt would understand that ethics means NOTHING to the Left. Whatever it is it is coming out, he should count on that.

The problem for the Right has always been that we always think the Left will do the right thing.

IIRC, during the impeachment proceedings of billyjeff, the House reportedly sent to the Senate, a storage room full of disgusting accusations. Almost all the Senators refused to review the info but sealed its release for 50 years.

If Gingrich had the stones to play hardball, he'd let Wm Clinton know the entire library of accusations might accidentally slip out if Pelosi follows through.

Make the impeached former president go to bat for noot.

You got that right. Watching Newt destroy Obama in the debates, then eat the rest of the Dem-centric press corps for lunch .....would be worth the price of admission, IMHO.

I'd love to see Newt go toe-to-toe with the press. Or Pelosi. Talk about having a battle of wits with unarmed combatants.

Pelosi served on the ethics committee that sanctioned Gingrich for violating tax law and lying to an investigative panel when he claimed tax-exempt status for a college course he ran for political purposes. Gingrich agreed to a $300,000 fine and admitted that he submitted inaccurate statements to the committee, but maintained Monday that the majority of the charges "were repudiated as false."

Regardless of the bravado, this is not good. Is Newt the only one who can be the nominee?
